Yay! I'm finally getting my Bimmer...just booked it...e90 320i...though the most basic... and somewhat a downgrade from an e46 320i... heck it's still a bimmer...

It's time to think what i should add to the car..here's my list...
1. Side Chrome
2. Bloody Sound System!!
3. Rims and tyres
4. Body Kit

Probably based on my tiny budget sadly i can do just 1 and 2 for now...but still I'm happy.

Problem is after searching around...it seems I can only add in the apline H701. change my speakers and if i really need add base in the boot... if i don't want to touch my car too much...(in terms of cutting her up..)

Even cutting the too front sides to imbed the speakers are making me nervous...since its my precious baby... arh....should have gotten the logic 7 setup i'm thinking..haa..

Wonder what i should do? or where to go(Hong guan is that good??ANywhere else?)

Cut the side to put the tweeter....for my new 4 inch speakers...(cos i don't think i want to reuse my 3.5 inch ones...hmmm) Any suggestions for a brand considering the following?( i listen to jazz and vocals)(budget 700? but do i need so good ones since my HU is still the same? or is there a super good pair of integrated speaker that is slim to fit my car door....4 inch and has inbult tweeters and overall base..hmmm for that i would freaking pay...at least then no need to cut cut cut)

Buy the H701 and connect it to my alpine amplifier f450(which i'm salvaging from my old 320i).. heard the H701 when connected to the e90i professional series head unit...gives some sort of buzzing sound...how how??(plan to hide it in the glove compartment...it improves sound or something rite...freak i feel like a himbo liao....I realise i know nuts)

then change the rear with my infinity reference series speakers(salvaging again).. hmm...then add my base...damm... I want my boot space....but free air subs are so ex!! how how how.... will it sound weird?? no base...just tweeters and mids...hmmm...

Headache!!! Don't know what to do!!! (haha...but still happy...yay...i'm getting a new bimmer...woot!)

Any comments?? ALternatives??

first of all, congrats on getting your new ride!

I have installed Focal speakers 4" at the side door - no cutting. custom made box for the Subwoofer still leaves a lot of room in the boot too.

HG is definitely one of the more trusted places to go. the other two installers i spoke to - amongst others are Dynasty at Bt Merah and New Generation at Paya Ubi.

Don't rush - my suggestion for you is to think over what your eventual system should be.

wah...i checked out the Alpine IVA 310 on the web...wow! I'm impressed..but doubt got that kind of cashflow..haa...ur system surely sounds great man...haa...

the IVA 310 is very useful while i wait in the car for my wife after work, especially rock concerts DVDs, entertainment on-the-go..hmmm

i have no pics because genesis amps are installed "free-air". maybe i try shoot one pic of the focal Be sub-W. visually the set-up scores very low, well, i'm not prepared to sacrfice any more boot space. as it is, 2 golf sets in the boot is easy. then again i dun play much golf...

for your 3way focals...how is the actual setup like?

I understand 3way means 2 tweeters, 2 mids, and 2 woofer(subs)

is it possible to put the the subs under the chair for the E90?

3-way? well, my layman understanding is that the 3 sets of drivers play the entire bandwidth, except constraint by their own respective range.

the woofers are located below the seats, your installer should be able to locate it, just wait around the shop to see. btw, those are Philips drivers.

finally got time to do my sound! yes! finally going to do something about it. I just sat in my friend's new civic...woah...i'm so ashamed of my sound..haa...their stock is so much better than the 320...tsk.. that's it... I'm pimping my sound!

Deciding between CDT and Rainbow.. wonder if the 3 way(4inch and 6.5inch will fit into the holes at the side of the door and under the seat respectively? haha...any advice...

The 4" should fit in the side door. The 6.5" drivers on ths side doors, well you're not the first one I know to install in a new E90 - i always thought the lower mids should come out much more defined then located below the seats. anyhow, congrats and happy shopping.

well, i thought maybe A-pillars will make significant difference to the soundstage - Jason is more than happy to help lah, why not, there's business for him hehe.The other challenge is to find a fabric that will complement the interior color :confused: , haven't got the time to check with PML on this yet.

personally i think its a pity for the low-mid Focal drivers to be placed under the seats to function as woofers. Not that low-mids are not as critical in SQ, in a 2-way setup the Focal Utopia mids were fantastic.

Focal Utopias can really really climb .. i ever heard one full focal setup (drivers) and it realy gobsmacked me ...

yo Nick...

I finally decided what I wanted for my car...hurray!!

After some car sound shopping...
I'll just be replacing my 4" speakers...and powering them with my exisitng amp..will wait till i have more money and courage before i embark on something more dramatic..

Anyway I chose Morel Dotech 2-way speakers(recommended by my installer)..gave up the idea of doing 3-way cause my door can't fit another 6.5'speaker- and placing it under the chair would be quite impossible due to the depth restriction which was what 2 installers told me. it's ridiculously shallow i was told.

So the projected end result would most likely be that my back speakers and woofers (under the seat) would continue to be powered by my pretty stock head unit.

so now all i wait is till my installer has the time to "fix" my sound..which will be some time next week- I think i should be happier then..haa...

haha....next time got money-> will get the apline h701 processor...kekee

ANyway kudos Nick for your advice...it helped alot..

hey Erert, practical tips no problem. the singseh is oneHeadlight lah.

fyi, there are low-profile woofers, if not you can get 5.25" drivers instead to replace the stock ones under the seat, well that's another consideration in yr next upgrade..

meanwhile, can't wait to listen to the Morels, run-in the new amp and speakers asap!:)

Hey Erert, if budget permitting, go for higher Morel range... at least the Hybrid.
but u have to be aware that the person who brings in Morel is not exactly well liked, and can be a real *%"^$£%_("%.
