pale in comparison

Well, most of the people in BMW.SG have at a certain time owned a BMW. Subsequently, some have changed their cars, but does that mean that we have to force them to leave the club? I think not.

At the end of the day, I think the most important thing is to create and foster a place whereby people can come and find out more about the Ultimate Driving Machine and at the same time possibly enhance the overall driving experience of a BMW.

Thread shifted.

Other than that, all i have to say is that, every forum has it's own defined culture. I'm not too happy about the state of OT posts, but it's improving slowly.

As long everyone makes a concious effort to stop themselves from going OT, the forum culture is quite alright. I agree with Kenntona's point. So if you wish to make a point, post in the appriopiate folders.

Do not post "this forum pales in comparision" to other places. I consider it as trolling.

just visited the porsche club web site for singapore. no offence to anyone but it seems to be done more in forcus with the models of cars under their stable.
just hoping that this web site can be more comprehensive or better :inlove:
it seems that only porsche owners are allow to join the club making it squarely with one objective . to enhance the overall driving experience of driving a porsche.

No offfence to anyone too... but I think BMW owners generally do not perceive ourselves as being an "Elite" group. Maybe the "fantastic" porsche website requires a premium before entry is granted.. Maybe much like the Ritz Carlton hotel fiasco recently... no long pants no entry...

I think it is quite clear that bmw-sg has relevant folders for everything under the sun. There are many in-focus threads as well. Maybe you need help to find them thats all.

And btw, you drive a porsche?

Oh and also, do post constructive queries and I am sure you will get constructive answers. Who knows, it may be so technical that you wouldnt understand...which is usually the case for me. haha. Perhaps consult the porsche website and keep humble me updated. Thank you.

Just my own 2 cents, not representative of bmw-sg in any way.

Cheers!

Tanzy,

Membership has its privileges.

As far as I could identify with, the BMW.SG forum has thus far provided a knowledge-based focus for dissemination of information about the Ultimate Driving Machine in virtually every aspects. The level of knowledge and enthusiasm about our cars is simply unparallel compared to many other forums. It has enabled the exchange of information (of any sorts, from soft issues like "where to obtain stickers", to hardcore mods like chipping) and has established a web-based information source for many new BMW enthusiasts. In addition, many active enthusiasts undertook comparative reviews of technical issues, which has benefited many new forum entrants.

The aim of the forum was to cultivate the interests of fellow BMW drivers, and to build a platform for "BMW enthusiasts's source of a one-stop experience for Singaporean owners to check out info, data as well as to have many services." But what is also interesting is the management of the wide spectrum of interests in our fellow members, given the diversity of membership profile. In this aspect, the forum has brought interested parties together to build a community of interest in various aspects, from tracking to fine dining, from watching F1 to watching drama. There is proper classification of threads under various sub-folders, and the readers will have to use their discretion to determine what is in sync with his or her relevant interest. Given the extensive nature of our membership, the focus and concentration of interests cannot and should not be compared to that of the Porsche Club.

I do agree that some threads were badly polluted by one-liner and off-topic comments that irritate readers with a specific agenda to obtain information. But I believe that the moderators have been enforcing the grip on these traits.

I do not agree with you on the issue of exclusivity of membership. It will be a tacky issue. We have many forumers who were formally BMW drivers, or forumers who are potential BMW drivers. There is simply no way to segregate the different membership profiles based on current BMW ownership. In this aspect, the exclusive approach to membership will be difficult, and socially insensitive, to implement.

Just my view. Cheers.

I am trying not to be offensive but what you are constantly posting about is starting to grate. Let me just then be absolutely frank....

1. I own a porsche.

2. I have only visited the porsche club website once.

3. This is despite the fact that I am a committee member of the porsche club singapore.

4. I would rate this website a 10/10 vs the porsche club website (2/10) in terms of usefulness.

5. If you really thing the porsche club website is so good, then go buy a porsche (have many many kangtow for you, boxsters can be had for just over $120k). I can nominate your membership if I am comfortable with you after meeting with you.

6. The BMW.SG website is free and for something that costs the vast majority of us absolutely nada, the returns are immesurable.

7. I have often (and still do) wish that Porsche club has something along the lines of BMW.SG. Have an online community to consult, share and tease (i.e. make friends) with at all times of the day is really special. Owning a car (for me at least) is all about sharing with like-minded individuals. The porsche in the Singapore context is a great car and has a reasonably good distributor. And although the club has plenty of activities and I have plenty of good friends within the club, one thing lacking is a proper website/forum. There is no one willing (even if paid to do so), able and having enough time to set up something along the lines of BMW.SG. I consider myself very very lucky that my BMW(even in the period when I didnt have one) experience in Singapore is enriched by being a member of BMW.SG

You really should learn to either live with how things are here, be constructive, meet up and participate with the other members here....

Or go buy a porsche.

But it doesnt guarantee that you will be accepted into PCS. Someone has to like you enough to nominate you first....

Sorry guys... can only afford a quick reply as Im using the quick reply function. So I'll make this quick....

Re: pale in comparison

Les,

"1. I own a porsche.

2. I have only visited the porsche club website once."

U r rite in the 2.5 Boxsters part; a 1997 car can be bot for about 130K, not really 120K as the paper of such cars are veri veri high due to the crazy COEs they hav. but keep in mind the high transfer n insurance costs......

Also, as I discovered, these cars are also not for mere mortals as the lifespan left is barely 3 years old n one cannot take a longer loan to reduce the impact of the high price. (relevant for loan takin mortals like myself).

Where is this PCS club Website? Can provide the link?

Cheers
