Paintwork Chip

Dear all,

I was wondering if you have the same problem as me...my paintwork seem to chip easier than normal. Is it that that the previous owner used a lower grade paintwork? I notice there is no acrylic layer too. Any flying objects towards my car will cause some chip. Help!!

Thanks, Wugui

Re: Paintwork Chip

eh, most flying objects will prob cause chips if they are coming at ya at high velocity.
as for your paint question, there are a few probabilites i guess:

1) paint quality and viscosity
2) paint type? 2k paint? resin paint? PU paint? etc
3) paint hardener used?
3) how many layers sprayed?

Disclaimer: these are just a few observations i made while embarking on my small parts spraypainting service, me also learning as i go

Re: Paintwork Chip

master wugui, you should see the stonechips on my car.

guess your car is lighter in colour? so the chips look more obvious?

bimmers have one of the best factory paint, so much so that when i want to respray my car, the guys at the paintshop advised against it. after more than 5 years, the paint is looking a bit tired, plus all the stonechips and door dings, so i will be having it done soon.

like sszone said, there's no paint that can guard against stone chips. it's like getting blasted by a high velocity object, especially when you are driving at speed. i get it all the time on the ecp.

try not to drive behind dump trucks. they are the worst culprits.

and imagine how motorcyclists deal with it.
