Paint Protection System help!

Thinking of getting some kind of Paint protection system[PPS] on my car.

My bro has a 2nd hand ride that has some sealant that is damn solid! car is dark in colour, kena rained upon & washed only like once in 3-4 weeks but there are no water spots and surface is still pretty smooth after washing! being a 2nd hand car bought from dealer, we have no idea what brand of sealant was applied.

I have seen products like
1] Prodetail - about $180 for mid-sized car. 1 time application
2] Glaze - maybe $350?? for 1 time application & subsequent 'touch ups' ?
3] 3mendous Shine - i dunno the $$$

anyone care to shine what products they have used & whether they'd recommend it?

Thanks

Re: Paint Protection System help!

I'm thinking of having PPS done too. But I'm gonna send the car to knock out dings and stuff. You can go AMK Autopoint to inquire from Toughseal/Glare. Glare seems to give the car a better wet/glossy look (dark colored) which is what I'm going for. Price wise would be about $380 (Glare) & $480 (Toughseal) on a 3 series. Hope it helps!

Re: Paint Protection System help!

i'm on meg #21 sealant... absolutely no regrets in terms of shine and protection. those of you whom i invited to feel the finish on my ride during the last meet-up will know what i mean.

and yes, its my daily ride, sapphire black, and i park outdoors 80% of the time - rain or shine...muahaha

louis must have just 'touched up' his ride prior to the meet up!!!

must pay a surprise visit to his ride one day.....:)

Re: Paint Protection System help!

haha,

catch me if you can. reg number 61. :)

you can also drive around chip bee gardens and look for the Z4 there. a few members here have chanced upon me already. i'll look like sh*t in my singlet and shorts, but my car will still be beautiful.

by the way, you can also see a pic of my ride in december's issue of CARMA magazine... i think...haven't seen it for myself yet. :yummie:

Re: Paint Protection System help!

im using a CS -II sealant from unique1995.com
Its really good..

never believed in such products initially but im amazed how it shines and keeps clean even after a mth..

toughseal is gd too...

Re: Paint Protection System help!

How does a sealant compare to Zymol? Do you still need to wax your car after a sealant? I want something that requires the least amount of attention! Very lazy lah...

Re: Paint Protection System help!

Hey Louis,

Could I ask where you got the Meg 21 done as well? Might check it out before deciding on Glare.

Cheers!

Re: Paint Protection System help!

dont have to wax yr car after sealant...it looks like a permanent wax.

Re: Paint Protection System help!

sealants are supposed to be longer lasting than waxes.... and more maintenance free. but really, i dont believe anything lasts for very long in our weather conditions - so whether you go for sealant or a wax, the best is to reapply regularly every 3-4 months at least.

vd383 - if you are interested in glare - speak to yong at groomworks at Jalan tua Kong. his service is very good and i think they offer 4 or 5 full treatments for about $400 -500 depending on car size.

they also have a range of other polishes they can use for your car.

Re: Paint Protection System help!

i'm not very keen on Glare... heard it's not that fantastic. my friend kena bird shit stain on his 'Glared' ride. He swear he cleaned it off the same day but the sh** ate into the paint already.
Plus paying $400-500 for a 1 time application effectively [rest of visits are just wash & cleanup] does not sound right to me.

hi there, you've got PM!

Re: Paint Protection System help!

a sealant is a synthetic wax and therefore serves the same function as a traditional organic carnauba wax.

sealants last longer than carnauba based waxes but in the past, they usually don't give as deep and wet a shine as carnauba. so what people would do is apply a layer of sealant for its protective properties then add a layer of carnauba wax over it for the shine. new generation of sealants, of which meg #21 is the latest, provide comparable shine with carnauba combined with longer lasting protection IF properly applied and IF the paint surface is properly prepped.

lots of people ask for shine AND protection AND durability AND low cost. i think that's unrealistic. if you're looking for a once a year type of product, don't expect show car standard of shine. if you want a showroom shine, don't expect to be able to neglect your car for half a year, wash only once a month, clean bird poo off only once a week, then drive to a car groomer before chinese new year and expect the chap to restore your car to its former glory.

in short, there's always a compromise; if the company tells you otherwise and can prove it, let me know, i'll send my own car for them to detail

teflon? hur hur hur... good luck, don't melt your window seals in the process.

have you any idea what the temperature required to bond teflon is? hint... think abt the temperature the teflon coat on your frying pan has to withstand.
