Overheated without overheating??

Seems like more and more electronic gremlines with my nearly 4 year old E90. I was driving on night when the warning lights came on for "unusually high engine temperature - drive moderately and get it checked" followed a few minutes later by the "Overheat, stop immediately!" warning. The fan kept blowing despite switching the car off - yet the temperature under the hood seemed pretty normal to me.

I restarted and the same sequence happened after a few minutes of driving. so got it towed to PML (at 1 am some more...)

PML have confirmed my water pump, hoses, fan and thermostat are working fine, and the car recorded no error codes, so they don't know what's wrong. Any bros here have the same experience? Would a re-programming rectify the fault?

Yes, a different part - else the vehicle would not be able to log temperatures in celcius etc.

And yes an ex-patrician as well ............. :)

Which year of graduation? :)

sian - PML can't diagnose the fault or find anything wrong, suggested preventively changing the pump which they said is in working condition. Doesn't make any sense to me to spend 1k plus just to try and see...
