our beloved 350Z's replacement

hi guys,

just wanna share a back-breaking afternoon's work with everyone.

our beloved 350Z was snapped up after only 5 days on consignment with a car dealer and as its replacement, we recently bought a pre-owned 996 from a loving owner, who's also a forum member now. :)

anyway, despite being groomed monthly by a groomer engaged by the previous owner, we found numerous fine scratches and swirls, as well as several deeper ones caused by the infamous rear-wiper blades.

luckily, i have an "in-house" groomer i can always turn to for help..... :)

in any case, here are the pictures, enjoy!

pre-restoration: fine scratches and swirls

post-restoration: caught in the rain while trying to take some photos.... but scratches not visible anymore.

post-restoration: even with camera flash, no swirls and scratches are seen

before: deep scratch from wiper blade on C-pillar

post-restoration: scratch on C-pillar hardly visible.... i took 5 minutes to find an angle from which you can just make out the faint scratch.... can you spot it?
n597696717_731531_3154.jpg

post-restoration: can't see the c-pillar scratch from any other angle

post-restoration: C-pillar scratch gone! *poof*

post-restoration: no swirls, no scratch. just rain drops gate-crashing my photoshoot

post-restoration: the rear wing/engine cover was the hardest to clean

ideally, the before and after shots should be taken under similar lighting conditions for a fair comparison, but i was in a rush yesterday.... nevertheless, i'll find the time to head back to Juzz|Brilliant to take more shots soon, so stay tuned!

Love the makeover you gave to your new porker. Any driving impressions for the 996 vis a vis the 350Z?

Re: our beloved 350Z's replacement

Congrats Louis on yr new ride (or is it mom's one ?) ..looks very clean after the grooming..!!

Re: our beloved 350Z's replacement

This is probably one of the cleanest and lowest mileage 3.6 996s in town. Time to get out there and drive it like it was meant to be driven... ;-)

I was the one who spoke to you n yr mum at Juzz Brilliant...kekeke:nehnehhh:

Damn your 996 is a good buy. Like those Enkeis too. And the chaps at Juzz Brilliant really did a wonderful job. Saw how they painstaking muskin-tape the areas, hard work lah:smack:

well, i'm just a PM or call away if you need help with grooming. plus, we're affiliated to j4c so you'll be supporting a site sponsor as well.

Rastaman, it's mine only when there're problems, servicing or grooming that needs to be done... haha. rest of the time, it'll be hers.

haven't drive it much since we collected it only a few days ago and haven't had a chance to slap on the replacement number plates yet. i'm not an experienced driver either, so i'm not so perceptive of differences between different cars.

but initial impressions:

1) steering's a little lighter than the 350Z but gives more feedback than my Z4's steering. also, unlike the electric steering in the Z4, i find that i have to turn the 996's steering wheel a lot more at low speeds and when parking.
2) throttle pedal's really stiff, makes it hard to stomp on the pedal during traffic light sprints.
3) brakes are a little mushier than the stoptechs on my Z4 and initial bite isn't as good. similar to the brembos i had on the 350Z though.
4) there's actually a little more road noise than the 350Z at highway speeds.
5) exhaust is quiet. i want to remove the mufflers completely, but i'm not sure how stupidly loud it'll be or if there'll be a loss in low end torque.
6) more relaxing drive than the Z4 since its a tiptronic. tiptronic lag not as noticeable as it was in the 350Z's auto tranny, but still not as immediate as my manual Z4.
7) driver sits higher in the 996 than either the 350Z or Z4, so better visibility.
8.) car's ride height more practical than either the 350Z or the Z4.
9) back seats are a great convenience!
10) its really troublesome to access the boot space in front.

that's all i can think of, off the top of my head.

p.s. Remus325, think i saw your 997 at wheelock yesterday? sweet ride.... nicer ass than the 996.

ah, i finally meet the great ABD!

yes, i could tell that you liked the enkeis.. hahaha, we're probably going to paint the centre spokes black though. either matt or shiny black.... still undecided...
