Dates

SIC has had some changes to their race calendar, so we have changed a couple of our track day dates to accommodate. The latest confirmed dates for 2011 are:

1) March 6 Sunday 1-4pm
2) May 7 Saturday 9-12pm
3) July 30 Saturday 9-12pm
4) Sep 3 Saturday 1230-330pm
5) Dec 10 Saturday 9-12pm

Please mark them out in your calendars.

Track Fees

BMWSG track days are non-profit, and my main aim for 2011 is to keep track costs as low as possible. As we have achieved a comfortable reserves buffer, I now wish to charge the track day at cost for our members. The track fee is rm18000, and we limit to 40 cars, meaning the cost price is rm450 per car. However, it will be difficult for any organiser to do their job if everyone signs up on the very last minute, so I will still wish to implement an early bird system to encourage sign-ups.

The track fee will be charged at rm500 per car. The early bird window will be 3 weeks before the event. Those who make it for the early bird signup will get a rm50 cash refund on the spot at the track from me.

As for 2nd driver sharing a registered car, I am thinking of charging rm100 (instead of the usual half price). Although we need not collect for this by right, I am trying to juggle the scenario that should the 2nd driver cost be too low, we will have more shared cars and lower car participation, leading to a financial loss. As it is, half the field is not from BMWSG already. At the same time I want to keep 2nd driver cost minimal to encourage newbies' involvement. Thus, rm100. It's not cast in stone though. Any comments?

As usual, only prepayment is allowed, and we will not accept people who turn up at the door to pay.

Reserves and Accounting

From now on I will record our money movement in this thread alone, for 2011. i realise that for the past year the accounting reporting was spread over several threads, making it difficult for any interested party to track the funds flow easily.

Our last reserves level was at S$8258 + rm2014. I have used S$3907.62 to pay for the rm9000 deposit for our first 6th March track day already. This rm9000 will subsequently be used for every track day that comes up, a rolling deposit if you will, for as many more years as we wish to track at sepang.

So now our latest balance is S$4350 + rm2014. This reserves is enough to cover a black swan event of a 15-car turnout. If participation is always low and the reserves fall, then we might consider reverting back to last year's track fees to rebuild this reserve.

As usual all the receipts, invoices and paperwork are with me if there's anyone interested to check it out.

Track Cars and Participants

We have not come to a solid conclusion to what cars are allowed discussion. When we have, I'll update it here.

As for participation, we still maintain our club rule of allowing only members, and friends of members only.

We will limit the max number of cars to 40.

Organisation

From my observations in 2010, its usually very chaotic during registration, which eats into everyone's track time, and also compromises our common understanding of our safety rules. So I'll need to establish some SOPs in an attempt to smoothen out the process.

Once you arrive at SIC, before you prep your car or anything, come to the common room and register. This will help spread out the melee.

Safety brief will start at exactly 15 minutes before track opens (eg. 845am). I will give out tags after the brief. For late comers, I will start another brief at the start of the session (eg 9am), and a last one after rounding up all the really late ones.

Members please tell your invited friends about our arrangement because usually I cannot reach out to them. As for newbies orientation, members are expected to guide their invited newbies. For newbies who are direct member signups from the forum, I or someone appointed here will do the guiding.

I also need another 1 or 2 volunteers to help with the registration. Also, anyone wishing to take over the organisation of our BMWSG track days, please let me know. I cannot be around to do this for every time also.

For the proper signup thread of each individual track day, I'll start another thread for that when it draws near. Thus for discussions, we can do it in this thread.

Great stuff

May I also suggest that whoever signs up for trackdays please also include your email for registration. I understand not many people log in to forum to read updates and so on so I think email works better for final notices n stuff.

Also, may I also suggest that organiser write up some briefing note and send to final participants instead of doing it on the trackday itself. This will definitely save time as there's still a need to do registration. Participants are, therefore without any excuse, obliged to read the briefing notes. Then on the day itself, newbies will be guided separately by the experienced trakkies. Of course, questions can only be asked if anything that isnt clear.

This is what I do in PCS. So much more efficient

Cheers

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

ok good idea. can you also sub your racequeens to bmwsg side too

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

Mar 6 TD: Reserves = S$4350 + RM2014,
Track fees = 41 paid cars (S$195 x 39 + 2 x RM450) + 5 extra drivers (S$45 x 2 + RM100 x 3),
Track rental = RM18000 @ 2.356 = S$7640
New reserve total = S$4405 + RM3214.

Need your opinions... I just had a thought.

At the expense of being all-inclusive, should we move track day registrations + convoy information into the restricted folder, due to the information displayed on the www. How?

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

Mate as a follow on from my post on the up coming track day, please consider the issue of forcing newbies to bleed their brakes and use hight temp brake fluid such as Castrol SRF etc for safety reasons and to show evidence of having done that a few weeks at most before the track day.... they may not know when their brakes are fading and the last thing anyone wants is a brake failure and the potential resultant accident.

You do that just because you are always hung over.

Actually, anyone who has attended a Traction Circle track day will vouch for the fact that they really instill a sense of seriousness about the track to ensure nothing excessively bad happens. And people can only collect the circuit bands just as they are leaving the safety briefing- to ensure that everyone knows the rules...

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

Hi guys,

Being a total newbie at tracking, I got a few questions to ask the experts, if you guys don't mind :). Firstly, I know this might sound abit stupid but, when is a good time to start prepping up the car for the track day? Would a time frame of a week before the track day itself be sufficient?

And regarding the brake fluid issue. By feeding high temp brake fluid, how much longer can the brakes last before it starts fading? In comparison to normal/stock brake fluids? This is more of a want-to-know question :p

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

Mate, it would be fine to just get the car done 2 weeks before hand as this gives ample time should you need to do things such as change pads, discs, etc.

As for Castrol SRF... so long as the brakes are properly bled a week or so before the track day, and discs, pads are in top condition you could probably have the brakes outlast your concentration... which means a lot of laps...

Enjoy your first track day.... and be safe. It can be the best of fun... but it can also be your worst nightmare. Remember the simple rules- it aint a race, leave the ego at home, and bring the car back and yourself in one peace... and you will be back for more!!!

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

i think for your GTR, u'd better prepare a brand new set of disc everytime you go tracking..stand by ah..
haha...

Re: Official 2011 BMWSG Sepang Track Day thread

Hi Guys,

Other than to change brake fluid, what other things must we do to a stock car before going for a track session.
By the way, if i want to bring my stock E60 523 for track, is it in acceptable because my speed will be much slower than many bros here and causing inconvenience?

Just go & have fun!

After you track once, then U'll know what you really need if you wanna do better the next track day with us......

Dun worri about being slow, we were all slow once.....it's the 1st step to go to a proper track & experience what's track driving is all about & not those street racers who mod their cars to the max but never once join us...........

There will be a few of us there to help if you need coaching......

I would like to know too! :p. Sorry for being so paranoid, but i would like to know if there's anything which will be needed fresh? Like engine oil? Is it necessary to top up fresh oil for the track day?

Thanks loads in advance

Dun be.....as long as the oil ain't that old like more than 10k km......we always do a pre-check before track day.....enuff engine oil, brake pads, radiator water/coolant, belts....

Then after track day, we'll dump the old worn engine oil & do a full service.....

Thought you were going to say need to prepare a new transmission each track day. Hahaha

Had a long talk with Lester today about prepping the GTR for the track.

Bottom line- I won't bother tracking it hard as I cant afford to. Its nothing compared to an Evo 9 or a GT3 mate... and the costs to run this Jap piece of origami (and it seems as fragile as that) is way too high. Car can be made to run 2.20 per Lester... but even he said it wont sustain that... and the GT3 will always be the real drivers car. And Lester said that my 9 was definitely the better drivers car with less electronics and weight behind it (as it was an RS version too).

Oh well, it will remain my howlian town mobile and I will just tool it around the track to get a feel for it. Lester even told me to brake way before 250m mark.... maybe even 300m as the brakes cant take it and the car will do 240kmh down the front straight.... a whole new driving system compared to the Evo and GT3 which is brake LATE.... oh yes... brake fade per Lester by second lap confirmed.... what a piece of crap.... oh but it looks so intimidating....

Harold : How about better pads & Castrol SRF for the GTR??

Brake fade is always pads + fluid that exceed the temp allowed....

Mate, yeah will definitely change to 800 deg pads and use srf. But I still have little faith in the tranny and am not going to spend the 5k on a tranny cooler with no guarantees the tranny will be safe and still wait for the abs pump to fail or something else- the car is a time bomb waiting to happen if I track it the way I do the rs or Evo per Lester... And the car is still a heavy thing. Typically see Gtr drivers brake way before 200m because of the higher speeds the car will hit and the heavier speeds. No fun in just having a fast car on the straights that behaves like a beached whale around corners. Also the issue of significant understeer- will need to change wheel alignment and turn off tc. Think this is gonna really be just a boulevard cruiser... :(
