The Q plated cars are still around, to eke out the rest of their lives slowly until the car is scrapped. But no more new ones will be created, coz nowadays the company cars are all regular plated, as are the rental cars.
Not entirely true that S plated (or for that matter a converted single Q plated) means no need surffix (or the checksum). As long as the car has changed hands or the plate has changed car, LTA will insert the checksum in. For those cars that you see on the road without the checksum behind, its coz they are the original plates on the original car with the original owner. Most likely those really old VW beetle, or Merc 200. They also dont have seatbelt coz the laws are not retrospective.
