Noob iPod question

Hi folks,

just curious, when I plug in my ipod via the USB port and access the songs via the iDrive. I am faced with 2 problems.

1.) Some of the songs come out with either weird characters or nonsensical titles e.g. UIIG, TKJR, XXID, etc

2.) During iTunes syncing with my iPod, I loaded in about 80 favourite songs but iDrive only picks up 19.

I have tried going through folders and all but can't seem to find one which has all songs.

I guess I'm missing something out here but just what it is I'm not too sure. Any iPod/iDrive gurus here?

Hey Bro I had a similar problem when connecting my ipod using the USB interface. Except that I could not view the playlist stored in my ipod on the Idrive. However, purchasing a cable from PML helped to solve the problem as according to the SA at Alexandra, not all the functions can be used without the cable.

If i remember correctly, the cable is exactly like a USb cable, except that it connects to both the USB and aux plug in the car. The cable roughly cost me about $200+ at PML

$200 bucks for a USB cable is just crazy, try this:

Sorted out already, bought the iPod cable from PML, costs me $135. Now everything works, weird that a cable alone can be that different.

Good to hear that you managed to sort the problem out. I feel that the cable should be included with the USB Interface as without it, there is no way to get the ipod to play correctly.

Sorry, i must have made a mistake on the price of the cable.

my ride only has a aux in ? no USB port in ? Will it work ? by buying the cable from PML??

I want to connect to idrive with my IPOD touch so view and select the songs to play from my Idrive???

Hi Reeve, apparently there should be a USB + Aux input slot in your car.I bought the cable from PML (a Y cable) and after that everything works. Still quite amazed how a cable alone can have a such a difference.

I think my ride doesnt have the IPOD interface. But when i called PML i am confused. They say they have two types of IPOD interface.

1). Glove compartment with IPOD wire connection S$1000

2). The other a USB + Aux connection from arm rest console. S$1500.00

Which one is actually better ?? i am only using IPOD Touch. I want control and selection of song from Idrive and steering wheels controls.

And also how the sound quality ??? which option is better ?

There is no need to buy the cable from PML. I got mine off ebay for USD9 and it works fine.

Both option you have mentioned are factory fitted. For retrofit, mayb u need to check with 1 of the sponsor.
