No road hogging

When I see this kind of comment on the papers - feel like this writer is joker .....

The point on lorries are on every lane except the left most - Foreign drivers or not ...... they must have realized you can't get a summons for hogging. So when a lorry is traveling on lane 1 or 2 at 70kmh .... Legally anything wrong ? Most TPs are on bridges taking photos. Speeding aside - What is a photo of a lorry on lane 1 going at 70kmh going to be charged with ?

The motorcycles also the same - honda cub on hovering between lane 1-2 at 70kmh.

TP can't do squat .... They are not legislators.

Ask TPL to go parliament and propose amendment to RTA ?

Better to suck thumb.

Sigh, Singaporean drivers speed and road hog too......

Re: No road hogging

Speeding is universal - get pic taken etc.

But the hogging part ..... Lorries / vans / motorcycle staying within their vehicle speed limits on lane 1-2 is just not right.

Re: No road hogging

So what's the purpose of this thread?

I thought the author brought up valid points........

I don't quite get the "joker" part.....

Re: No road hogging

There's a Rule i.e. Heavy Vehicle Keep Left, it is enforcement issue..... but then again, staying on lane-2 of 4 lanes is still keep left mah :lo:

Re: No road hogging

To be honest, there are so many of them on the road that they have no choice but to go faster and wonder into other lanes so that they can be on schedule.
So whose fault was it to let the heavy vehicles population go up so drastically?

I bro never scold chao g***m**.

Re: No road hogging

Firstly - The writer is trying to link the 10kmh increase in vehicle speed limit to the lorries not being in the left lanes ........ Which at most is being discourteous in lane discipline but I don't see the 10kmh linkage.

Secondly - What the writer is asking the authorities to do is to take note of discourteous lorries.

The writer a mindless whiner....... ?

The answer - who miscalculated the release of public housing and infrastructure eg. rail and roads, etc and is now rushing to build up supply to match the needs of the population growing to 6.9m. The whole of SG looks like one massive construction site now.

Cheereeeeerrssssssssss....

There are few points that the author noted:

(1) "In the 1990s, lorries and goods vehicles were restricted to the leftmost lane of the expressway."

(2) What have changed after speed limit went up?
(a) Lorries and goods vehicles have sped to 90-100 km/h.
(b) They are all over the lanes.

At this point, I concur with his observations. Whether (a) and (b) are linked is not his gist. His gist is (a) and (b) are happening now.

(3) His explanations - (a) foreign workers as drivers (b) foreign vehicles. I think this is valid but only a partial truth. Remains debatable insofar as the bigger picture is concerned. Local drivers and local heavy vehicles DO SPEED as well.

(4) He diagnosed that speeding is a root problem for these vehicles. Implicitly he asked for a tougher stance against them. I thought this was a good call, especially in the context of speeding AND in the faster lanes.

I am not sure how were these points perceived as construed from a "whiner".......

KNNCCB..... I was clocked going 2km/h over the speed limit by the white ant outside Japanese association Adam road.... then given fine and demerit point.

knn....TP should ticket every goods vehicle.... confirm make fine quota every first day of the month.....

The observation are a fact and no doubt irritates many drivers.

He raised 2 points - speeding and heavy vehicles all over the lanes.

X) Speeding is universally enforced. TP / speed camera take a picture and one pays the price. Nothing new there - so why complain about the obvious.

Y) Heavy vehicles all over the lanes - Key point 1 - the heavy vehicles were restricted in the 90s to the left most lane. Is that by law ? If it is then did the law change today ? If there is no law about this then lorry drivers (foreign or local) are just being discourteous by being on any lane they like today.

And they can do it at e.g. 70kmh or 100kmh.

If the heavy vehicle is speeding all over the lane at 100kmh - please see point X).

If the heavy vehicle is traveling all over the lane at 70kmh - is it illegal ? What is the writer asking for in asking for the authorities to take note ? Which ministry is he directing this to ? Is he looking for a change in legislation ?

Obviously, the complaint is directed at enforcement, or the lack of. Author was appealing for authorities for this.

Also an issue about enforcement, especially when the limit is only 70 but they were stated as going as high as 90-100. And again, author was appealing for tighter enforcement.

I think there are two issues here:

(1) faster speeds of these vehicles, regardless of which lane
(2) these vehicles going all over, regardless of speeds

You need to see these as isolated factors, though they might co-relate. For (1), the hazards can still happen if all huge vehicles are on leftest lane. Author has made speeding a point. For (2), whether speed limits have been raised or otherwise, author's perspectives was that it was due to foreign drivers and foreign vehicles.

In each case, author was asking for more enforcement - against speeding of heavy vehicles and against heavy vehicles travelling all over. Actions - against speeding and against taking up lanes. Target - foreign drivers / foreign vehicles (I think this is a tad myopic)

Which ministry? LTA and TP. I doubt the author was writing to MOE or MOH.

Was he looking for a change in legislation? I don't think he thinks that far. Just a casual rant, like all of us. Will the tail wag the dog?

Re: No road hogging

When can we storm LTA like what the Thais are doing?

Just as I have been whining to my friends back in the civil service, 6.9mio is no problem. But they better get the infra in place and allow time for integration in order for it to work... else it's like building bulk through steroids - something will explode down the road.

2km/h?!?!?! That's ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. I can't even read a 2km/h difference from my speedometer!!! You should go bang table... I mean appeal nicely.

No road hogging

Anyone encountered lorries or vans with 70kph bumper stickers on lane 1? At relatively heavy traffic?

I did. Not once but few times now. Local plates!

I am flabbergasted!!! We are swamped with lorries, bikes, heavy goods vehicles on all lanes
