2. Auto can track?

3. what pre-track day checks/preparations should i have? my car gonna be just runned-in..need to change engine oil before? what abt tyres? if puncture at track how? must bring spares?

4. must buy insurance there? any special insurance or something? if accident happen..can claim under my normal insurance?

5. i see that u guys meeting at KLCC at 5am...so means drive from SG at like midnight before?

Re: Newbie with questions

What a way to start tracking.. thinking about track b4 getting car lol!

1. No car is too slow.. id!ot drivers are more problematic..

2. Can track.. export car after 5th year if you do heavy tracking.. or u can order new gear box..

3. First of all.. run in your car and do a 1st servicing (duhhhh)
You can track the car when it's stock.. rest every 4-5 laps.. check oil and bring spare oil.. buy tire pressure gauge.. make sure spare wheel / patch kit is in car b4 move off.. get helmet / gloves.. bring extra t-shirt & big big water bottle..

After knowing how to drive your car.. then maybe can think of camber/oil cooler/bars/juice/suspension/slicks etc etc

4. sensitive.. PM serious trackers here..

5. can reach sepang in 3 hrs if doing 160km/h & during wee hrs (3am - 6am).. I am not asking u to speed.. try a comfortable pace and do the calculations..

enjoy tracking.. =)

Re: Newbie with questions

bro, better to run in 1st b4 tracking. ur car is one of the most powerful in the bimmer family. no worries. would be good to use seperate set of tyres for tracking. as for the gear shifting, can always use pedal shifts on ur 135

Re: Newbie with questions

hmm i think spare tyres would be a problem :( how to bring? my car got no spares...abt troublesome... whats patch kit?

Re: Newbie with questions

I think the trackkies should come in and give their advices, especially on prep work and insurance-related stuff.

any car also can track....

2. Auto can track?

of cos

3. what pre-track day checks/preparations should i have? my car gonna be just runned-in..need to change engine oil before? what abt tyres? if puncture at track how? must bring spares?

oils, water, brakes, tightened ur wheel nuts etc...nothing special. bring a spare if u can. u will never puncture at track..ur puncture will likely be on NSH.....at track just remove ur spare to reduce weight.

4. must buy insurance there? any special insurance or something? if accident happen..can claim under my normal insurance?

no insurance. ur car is not covered for accidents on a track. or on any motorsports activities

5. i see that u guys meeting at KLCC at 5am...so means drive from SG at like midnight before?

KLCC? thats petronas twin tower. we meet at petronas 2nd link. its a pump station.

Nope. But the preparation process from tyres to oil change and the insurance coverage portion - if and when it happens - are important issues only the trackkies can advise.

Re: Newbie with questions

hmmm maybe i'll just join you guys there but not track :)

Re: Newbie with questions

Here's a guide if u really wanna track and concerned about 1st time tracking

Step 1) Identify trackers from the forum.

Step 2) Find out when is the next BMW meetup and if the trackers are going.

Step 3) Meet them up and ask watever question you want.

Alternative) Call up traction circle club and ask watever questions u want.. All the black & white & grey..

Cheers! Happy tracking!

Re: Newbie with questions

Most of the time, prior to trackday, the organizer will organize a meetup to collect track fee, etc... So can go there ask the trackies to clear all the doubts...

Re: Newbie with questions

Yup, PM me or give me a call 96199100 regarding any qns you may have on tracking. I'll help as best as I can. I'm also trying to come out with a prep guide for tracking, but it'll get wordy and i need some time to come out with that. Also, i'm trying to come out with a safety brief guide for everyone to read also, prior to going up the track day, so i can focus on the important points only during the actual safety brief. Lastly, I am also trying to get a soft copy of the indemity form so everyone can fill it up prior to arriving at sepang, so we wouldnt have overcrowding. good?

Alexxx, most of the points above you have mentioned are already answered. As for insurance, the short answer is that we do not purchase insurance at all for our tracking session. Note that the moment you enter SIC, your insurance cover ends till you leave. If you really do want to purchase additional track insurance, you'll have to contact your insurance agent, for them to work out something for you during this 3 hours. You'll of coz have to pay extra for that. Usually we dont bother, and we just take care and have proper gentlemen's track etiquette when we track. If you buang yourself on the barrier, or if you flip your car alone, then you'll just have to pay for the barrier (to SIC) and to fix the car yourself at your own expense. If you buang with another car, then both of you will have to settle the damage between yourselves. So the best advise is: dont buang.

I strongly encourage you to fully run in your car, have at least 2000km on the clock. 5000 is ideal. Then change oil to a good one like Mobil or Shell then you'll be ready for track. Track driving need not be horrible to your car if you choose not to abuse it at the track. Drive within your car's limits and your wear and tear will be minimised. Any car can track. There's no modern car that is too slow for our track day.

Join us at this coming track day, and there'll be plenty of lao jiaos around to give you proper guidance. Our aim here is to introduce the sport safely to every interested member here.

Re: Newbie with questions

Always go to SIC or any track day with relatively new brake pads and tyres..I've finished a pair of relatively new pads in one SIC outing before and as a result, made many people wait for 4hours for the brake pad courier man to come deliver replacement pads all the way from KL..

For those with cars with a certain milage, always remember to change/bleed your brake fluids with good, fresh brake fluid..dot 5.1 is very ideal for example. Newbies with stock brake pads, you might want to consider getting higher temp pads for your track day.Brake pads with at least 600degree ratings..You don't want to be getting brake fade after coming down the main straights into a hair-pin at 160-200+ km/h(depending on how much horses or how big the balls) .

Generally, for the goodness of your engine, just before a track day, its best to be running on new engine oil and filter. You can't imagine the stress going on in an engine visiting redline many times under the hot KL weather.

Hmm, and try to bring along a bag to stuff all your loose and small items around in your cabin to keep everything neat when you're on the track..You definitely don't need a pen or some air refreshener to be flying around in the cabin when you're loading up the Gs...or some unbrella or water bottle going underneath your brake pedal when u are entering a corner at 160km/h ?

Consider getting proper footwear for your drive..Puma makes good driving shoes for example.(motorsports shoes) and what i feel makes quite a difference in driving comfort on the track are a pair of driving gloves. Grip is consistence even if you've got sweaty palms.

Hope this helps. :yummie:
