New to BMW

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to BMW and I've a couple of questions to ask current owners.

I'm currently deciding among the following vehicles:
- 2006 BMW 325i
- 2006 Lexus IS350
- 2006 Audi A4 2.0T

I'm going to buy the car in North America as I'm mostly stationed there. Any comments?

From my limited understanding:
- Lexus is having some problems with the current recall for stuck acceleration paddle.
- BMW tends to have a lot of servicing problems after 3 to 4 years.
- Audi just changed their body kit for 2010 model, making the 2006 model not as nice to own.

Previously/Currently owned vehicles
- 2006 Audi A3 2.0T
- 2006 VW Jetta 2.5L

Thanks in Advance.

Yup, me know they are all different engine capacity. =)
Price wise,
lexus: $25,500
audi: $25,000
bmw: $20,000

I've test drove 2: lexus and bmw. The following are my opinion:

- the lexus is350 has a very intrusive steering control which cannot be switched off for the 2006 model but the interior is very nice and looks more spacious than the bimmer.

- the bmw (actually I test drove the 328xi instead of the 325i which I'm interested in), sticks to the ground and has excellent handling but I don't like the interior. It feels very tight.

- I drove an a3, so I think the a4 is about the same driving feel. Plus I'm now driving a Jetta. Overall, I'm very used to Audi/VW driving conditions.

But due to price savings, I'm quite inclined to get the BMW. Anything I need to worry about BMW maintenance?

if thats the case go for the 328.

u would be suprise, but here in singapore bmw maintanence is not that expensive. its the jap cars that are require more frequent and expensive servicing. i guess u buy cheaper but they earn from the maintanence of the car. its a zero sum game

Re: New to BMW

Go for the BMW - no second guessing needed. Anyway Re-sale also better for the BMW. P

Anything I need to worry about BMW maintenance? I am worried about BMW cars breaking down. Japanese vehicles (Lexus) are said to be more reliable too. My friend's dad changed from the 2007 7 series to a Jag last year due to too many problems. I was also reading reviews on Edmonds.com and there was a post from a BMW service mechanic and he said he bought a Lexus due to BMWs being in the service bay more than on the road. I think he was exaggerating but I am wondering how much of that is true? For myself, I've an above average experience with Audi/VW but I was thinking of changing vehicle brands.

That said, I really like bimmers. It's great to say: "I'm driving a Bimmer"!!
