Hi All,

Just joined BMW-SG, currently own 1 (E39) - great car! But sadly , it has been giving me some problems lately - a few trips to the workshop still can't fully fix the problem. Anyway, anyone who is driving a E39 - do feelfree to drop me a note.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

What kinda problems with the E39?

Re: New to BMW-SG

Hi Breyton,

Each time the car is started in the morning - when left in the idle mode - after 15 secs or so - the engine starts to vibrate - it feels as if you're seating a rocking boat after another 5-10secs or so later the vibration stops and the car is back to normal - the vibration now is not that bad as I've replaced the sparks as well as the oil . Fyi, my pickup is great and there's no lag, no issues shows up when its hooked to the computers.

Now, I'm at a lost :whattheh

Re: New to BMW-SG

Hi ErikaT,
Why don't you bring your car to any of the workshops in our Sponsor's page, I'm sure they can diagnose and solve the problem for you.

In the end, you may realise that it is a small problem and not worth losing your confidence in the car.

All the best and hope you enjoy your ride. E39 is a damn solid car, Davidtch say one.

Re: New to BMW-SG

Yeah, bring the car to one of the listed workshops as the Robot suggested....

Re: New to BMW-SG

Mayb u have to leave it overnite for the workshop to diagnose. I have this annoying sound during cold start. This sound is similar to W124 idling. After engine warm up, it is gone. As i did not leave it overnite, till now i still don't know why.

Re: New to BMW-SG

Hi All,

First of - sorry for the delayed reply. 2ndly, thanks for all the kind responses and replies, appreciate it.

I've done what most of you suggested, brought it to the workshop - changed the parts that could be related to the problem I'm having - still no luck. Computer checks - no faults displayed as such the workshop is also at a lost.

In any case, I shall continue to diagnose the problem until I find the solution.

Once again, thanks for the suggestions, appreciate it :)

Re: New to BMW-SG

I've seen some E39, having individual coil units and it could be one or two weak ones that have intermittent failure causing the engine to shudder. Just an approach for you to explore, as quite often, the workshop missed this possibility out. :ehhh:

Re: New to BMW-SG

Erika, have u tried R2D?

David, e39 solid as a tank! Still look menacing after so many years :)

Re: New to BMW-SG

Hi Jawz,

The workshop I went to, changed the ignition coil (not sure if this helps) but other than this nothing else was changed. I've also changed my mass airflow sensor as well but still no avail. To add to my problems, recently the engine will have this sudden pull as if like a hiccup whenever I accelerate from 80 km/hr - 90km/hr - the hiccups will come at irregular intervals. Sometimes the engine is as smooth but other times it'll have this hiccup which can be irritating as well as scary at times as I do not know if the entire engine will fail on me while driving.

Any ideas what could be the problem? If all else, I may have to give it up :-(

Re: New to BMW-SG

as suggested you can tryit out at our forum site sponsor workshop , i think this will sure help you.

Re: New to BMW-SG
