hallo,

i have question, would you take a new bumper or would you respray the bumper ??

If respray, which workshop is better ? will there be colour difference that one can tell that the bumper is resprayed ?

If new, an idea how much it costs ?
where can i get one then ??

thanks !
michelle

what happened to ur bumper?
if its badly damaged ie cannot be repaired than u should change it otherwise its cheaper to respary. cheers

check out the workshop link at the top, for Lye designs. depending on the damage they can quote you for a bumper repair.

Who's paying? Insurance policy? Whose insurance? If not against yours, take a new one. If against yours, see the damage. Any cracks? If absolute sum of claim is small (relative to respraying), might as well take a new bumper. You have to spraypaint in either case.

The entire bumper? Sin Wee Chuan (Mike) or Videan (Ah Boon). They tend to provide a better paint job on huge surfaces. No vested interest in them, but have tried them against other workshops. Hence an objective comment. Colour-coding should not be a worry if the workshop is good.

Your ride is PFL sedan, if I am not wrong. Cost of rear M-Tech bumper is about $1,000 to $1,100 from PML.

if there are no dents, go straight to the spray paint workshops, if there are dents on the bumper, go to a panel beater like Lye design first. sorry if i wasnt clear in my earlier post.

From the naked eye, no crack lah, but there's scratches and there's also a GAP now between my car and bumper. :-(

The other person is paying, not claiming insurance, it was obvious that it's his fault lah.

wow........

gap between bumper and car... you gotta be careful here.

my experience with misaligned bumper, is that until you remove it and try to repair then put it back, you never know if the damage to the mountings is reversible or not.

The bumper is held onto the car body by two protruding rods. when your bumper gets slightly displaced in a small fender bender, there's a possibility that the internal structure is not affected, and by dismounting it and remounting it, you can set it back in position.

but if the internal structure is slightly bent, no matter how you try to reposition your bumper, it'll always look slanted, or the gaps not consistent. In this case you most probably have to get a new bumper.

The spraypaint workshops should be able to correctly assess the damage once they dismount your bumper. keep your options open and try not to commit to the party at fault that you'll only require a spray paint job, as the damage could potentially be worse.

hi michelle,
racebred is right. I have a similar experience with my car. Bumped at the back by a cab and decided to settle it at a outside workshop out of convenience. Ah Boon at UBi does a reasonable job in getting bumper looked like new. However if the mountings are misaligned, it is really hard to get it straigthened. Mine was straightened for a few days, but the rest for the following 2 years, one side of my bumer has a smaller gap than the other side. The BMW chassis is really hardy, some of the structral damage may not be visible to the eye. If you're a perfectionist and need to get everything right, I suggest you consider making a claim and send it back to PML. 0.02 cents.
