Guys,

I've been using lenovo thinkpad X61 for a few years, thinking of changing to a better one. Any good laptop to recommend. Preferably another thinkpad.

Thanks

Dell Latitude and Precision is pretty good..you looking for light weight or performance?

Re: Need recommendation of Laptop - Office Use

You are not going to expect too much from a laptop if using for office. I am using Thinkpad T410.

I'm using Dell Vostro 3450... good enough for business usage as it is reliable and it hasnt given me any problems thus far.

Just checked the Dell website, yes you are right... it is among the heaviest (2.28kg).

I have 2 power adapters, one in the office and one at home... so I dont carry it with me. That surely lighten the weight a little.

Re: Need recommendation of Laptop - Office Use

if your using it in the office..basic stuff (type letter surf internet invoicing etc) no hardcore gaming or high end video editing..then get Vostro V131 its slim and light and price is low as well...1.8kg but no built in drive

Re: Need recommendation of Laptop - Office Use

Ok thanks bro, more or less going for Volstro V131.

Ehh this is not my thread. paiseh

Thanks guys for the recommendation, will do a search on this. BTW, all this while been using thinkpad cos i find it very reliable, is the X210 the newest model ? If not, what is the best model for thinkpad,

Ya, I hate slow too.

Re: Need recommendation of Laptop - Office Use

i had two studios from dell.... both had the common keyboard problem, tab key popped out, F2 key now hard to press... sianz... called up dell support for the tab key and the support guy said will charge as this is a wear and tear problem. i scolded him say one month niah and the tab key like that, pui! so dell replaced the keyboard for free. but now the keys are starting to feel wonky again...

unlike my compaq, used for 4 years and the tactile resistance of every key felt the same as the first day.

maybe the new studio 15z better, the separated keys type one.

no more dells for me...

Notebook Clinic - www.hardwarezone.com.sg

check out the thinkpad thread there...

i think if you don't mind hassle of buying it online and shipping back...might just be worth sticking to thinkinpad...

quite abit of savings even after GST with full customization

at least you know the model you want..then wait next month lor...24th to 27th nov..last day just go and aim for the model you want sure good price

anyway checked for you they have 3 models for x220 i5 / i5 with ips screen / i5 with ips and 8gb screen

2099 / 2499 / 3099

2099 got free dvdrw dont wan less $100. imo 2099 enuff if need more ram just upgrade urself..ips screen on notebook is it rly needed? the notebook so small so your probably not gonna go graphics/color work on it

the above prices are walk-in price..friend not around so dunno wat kinda price i can get...maybe 100 off those price or something..normally retailers have a margin of abt 10 - 15% retail price

Re: Need recommendation of Laptop - Office Use

ips is the technology of the screen (LCD/LED) its gives you higher viewing angle and sometimes better more accurate colors

im guessing the 3099 would be the one your looking for

actually if you want fast..go for solid state hard drive..i have an old dell..core 2 duo 4 gb ram but SSD HDD and its fast. Intel has a SSD at cost abt $300

anyway...for $3100 why buy thinkpad? i rather buy a sony...cant remember the model but i know its i7 with all the nice config and with graphics card...6 months ago was selling for nearly 4000 now should be cheaper and its 13.3" and 1.5kg bigger screen and around the same weight as the thinkpad

$3000 alot of options :)
