Need Help !

I recently fitted my E60 523 with the M5 rims and then lowered my car with Eibach springs at BVO. I did a wheel alignment ( at a general tyre shop ) and have balanced my rims 3 times already but i keep getting this juddering / vibration of my steering wheel at 80 - 110 km/hr. Its very uncomfortable and frustrating. I have heard that different lowering springs ( Eibach / AC ) require different wheel alignment camber / toe settings that could affect the stability of the car. Is there any truth in this and who can i approach to get this problem fixed? Thanks for your advise! Cheers! :)

Re: Need Help !

Try check your tyres for pressure balance and/or uneven wear. Sometime on a softer set of springs, uneven wear does not show up too prominently. On a harder set of springs, the feeling is enhanced and they usually feels worse at speed. If tyres are Ok, then you need to go back to the workshop to have your alignment re-checked. Most alignment setup does comes with guides exclusive to car models, make sure that the one doing your alignment has that program or reference and worked in the tyres' size accordingly.

Re: Need Help !

Yah spoke to a tech guy yesterday over the phone and he suggested it could be a worn control arm too ... whats that by the way? Have not had time to check the wheel alignment again. Dont think its uneven pressure / wear cos my rims and tyres are all brand new :)

Re: Need Help !

You will only need to change the control arm bushing, the actual control arm itself is really very tough. They are the metal parts that holds your wheel in place.

Re: Need Help !

In my view, your car is too new to have a worn control arm (unless it is a defective piece but that is unlikely since you did not experience any prob before rims upgrade). Cld be juz a case of needing to get high speed balancing done. Perhaps you may wish to go to a recommended alignment shop to get the car looked at again unless u have already done that to no avail. You can PM Triple M for his contacts. There are alignment shops and there are alignment shops.

Re: Need Help !

Just go and check your control arms 1st, there are two arms linking to each suspension. Bigger wheels tend to have more feedback, unless the rims you put in are 2nd hand ones which are out of shaped which is unlikely cause it can be seen when doing wheel balancing. How old is your car by the way, new doesn't mean faultless too.

Re: Need Help !

My car is about 8 mths old with 20K on the mileage clock. My rims and springs are about 1 - 2 months old and i bought them brand new. The rims and tyres look perfect during balancing but when i put the balanced wheels on, the vibration was still there. I did not experience any vibration prior to my upgrades. I dont really remember clearly but i thought the vibration only came in when i lowered with the Eibach springs :( Will prob send it to Kian Thiong for wheel alignment 2moro and see what they say :) Will post again after my wheel alignment :)

Re: Need Help !

did u get replica or OEM m5 wheels? u might need hubcentric ring...

or it might be mis alignment

Re: Need Help !

Pls check also if u really had the right springs for the car
I have seen a case sometime ago whereby a wrong set of lowering spring caused vibration too at ard 100kmh. The owner took out the springs and re-ordered a correct one and the problem was solved.

Re: Need Help !

Just did my wheel alignment at Kian Teong.. Mike is pretty good. Now my vibration is reduced to almost nothing. As my rims are OEM, he said he would be getting the hub rings for me as the centre part of my rim that fits onto the hub is slightly tapered and not straight which causes the rim to be able to move slightly and this could be amplified at higher speeds :)
