Hey Alan!

Thanks for your reply! I was hoping that the first one to reply would be you!hahaha.... :)

Ok, I thought so (dust cover) but in reverse why bo sia leh?? And then hor, it's quite loud leh......when cruising without foot on gas, you could hear it with the windows down.

Thanks!

Any bros experiencing this? If it is normal, then I bo Chap liao..... :shoot:

Agree with Piggy. My e39 got noises coming out at weird times that I can only hear when the surrounding is quiet, e.g. in carpark. I have learned to live with them as long as the car's performance not affected. Minor creaking here and there, my ears are adjusted to them liao.
:laughlik:

Mine also have some sound coming from the undercarriage. At first I thought it was the rims/tyres. When travelling above 50km/hr and reverse, there is no sound. The sound is very apparent when I go down slope at low speed.

Check with PML personnel and they said the sound not from the rim/tyres but from undercarriage. The mounting and bushing is loose. Send for servicing last week and they replace the necessary parts (under warranty). The PML personnel told me that one of the bushing actually cracked.

Now the sound is gone except once a while have a creaking sound, but don't know where it came from.

Regards,

Worn bushings and mounts could possibly cause the sounds... but infact, all that might be needed is some lubrication...

if it's a sound related to your cruising speed, then something is either in contact with something else, something broken or misaligned. there are various weak points in your entire steering rack/suspension. especially thin pieces of metal that connect your ARB to your shock, for example. These are usually the ones that give way first. the rubber dust covers (not to be confused with your brakes' metal plate dust cover) around certain joints can break and allow debris in within a year from new, and when debris go in, they affect the workings of the joints, and they may come loose. so when you move, these noises will come out.

first of all isolate where the sound is coming from, left or right, front or back, then jack up your car and see what's loose or wrong. but sometimes when the car is jacked up and not moving, the sound cannot be replicated. move the linkages around to see if there are any free play. visually inspect the dust covers and bushings.

recently i isolated a noise from my suspension this way. Now that i know what is causing the sound, i can replace it properly when the time comes.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the replies....

Anyway, went to BVO this morning and Bernard isolated that it is from Front right side. But he cannot confirm what is the issue.

RB,

Thanks for the detailed analysis.....

FYI, my ride is pretty much stock except for SACHs lowering springs and shox and BBS 18s.

What do you figure it could be cos my driving style is so mild!!!!! No enthusiastic and hard driving at all cos most times with my wifey in the car.

Ride is about a year old and damn low mileage......

Thanks!

whenever you mod your suspension to stiffer anything, there's increased wear and tear. not only to your suspension components but it may travel to other parts of the car. Thats coz the shocks and undulations from the road is now better and more directly transmitted to many parts of your car. It's an understood principle that if you mod your suspension, your wear rate will def go up.

ooh... I thought that with better suspension, it will absorb the shocks and undulations and thus cause less "damage" to the other parts of the car. I must be wrong then. Does it mean that it will cost more in the long run if we change to stiffer suspension. (Actually thought of changing stock to Sach).

u will have accelerated wear and tear. thats all. it's just that the things that you eventually need to replace is brought forward only.

ic.... by the way, under normal circumstances, how long will the stock suspension last vs say, Sach Pref?

Thanks,

Dude!

Thanks again! Yes, I fully appreciate the fact about faster wear and tear....I am prepared for those things.

OK, so....any workshop other than PML you would recommend to me for identifying the possible issue? I need those guys who are sibeh good in "catching" sounds one.....hehehe.....

KAMSIA again!
