i'm seriously need help to adjust the seat. today is my 2nd day of driving the new car and i have started to develop back pain. this has never happen to my old car. i try all ways ... lift front .. lift back .... up/down ... etc .. i just cant get it right. either it is to upright or slanting too downward.

any expert here in setting the seat ? if not have to give a call to my SE and then drive down to PML alexandar and seek some help there.

anyone facing similar situation where very difficult to set the seat to your liking ? i got a problem where my left leg like to rest slanted where i cannot keep it straight (too tiring) and it is blocked by the centre piece ... so every few minutes i have to lift my bum and move abit. *arrrh*

can't imagine a 5 to 6 hours drive to KL :(

thanks !

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

Have you tried moving the steering wheel and seeing if adjusting that allows a better seating position. I'm 1.8m tall, broad across the shoulders & car has same E90 cabin as yours. Had to adjust both before I found the right combination. If all else fails, try putting a lumbar support cushion.

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

Bro, this happens to me every time I changed cars. I will keep adjusting the seat every 5 mins whenever I drive, and this will last like 1-2 weeks or more. During this period, sometimes my back hurts so bad that I'll have to rush to my massage chair once I get home. But the interesting thing is, after the setting in period, the seat feels comfortable in whatever position I set it to. I've thus come to 2 conclusions:
1. I'm really get old!
2. It's really a matter of getting used to your new car seat, getting your body to adapt to the seat.
I think point 2 above is quite true, cause nowadays I just switch cars or seats without having any backaches at all.

My 2 cts.

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

i asked 2 of my colleague to do an experiment. both said the back support is too soft.
one of them said may be that's the cool thing about bimmer.
if all fails then have to get an additional support for the back :(
and i'm only 1.7m tall .... i read a lot of post before i buy the e90 that guys who are 1.8m tall like you and most of ang moh in e90post can sit in e90, why would there be a problem for me (a shorter guy). by the way, the "seat belt" socket can be moved or extended ? i find it too deep inside and hard to clip.

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

certainly hope to get it right in a week time. if not i'm afraid to develop back pain problem :yikess:
when i test drive the car, i already notice the centre piece is damn big and blocking my left leg to rest "comfortably" but i wasn't worry too much about it during test drive because i guess it is about adjustment and adaptation. but now, it becomes a problem for me :( ... really have to find a way to adapt my leg position while seated ... and i drive 6 to 7 hours to KL with 2 stops

You have to get used to it, especially the big centre piece. Merc and BMW are both same same. BMW seats are actually quite comfortable after you've get used to it, Merc's seats are worse and they are damn hard. Took me more than 1 month to get used to it!

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

i thot Merc seats are slightly bigger? (less hugging)

the Merc SE says so during the test drive to compare between E60 and E200...

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

Oh, I was comparing between my C and 5. The 5 seats are softer and hugs the body better. The C's seats are very hard. Can't really compare the size though as the cars are of different sizes.

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

Hi wt_know,
I have the same problem too when I change cars. See bro 715 reply above. I keep adjusting it everytime I drive, and it lasts for 2-3 weeks till I finally get used to it. Very bad during that 2-3 weeks, especially when I already have back problem.

What I can suggest is you put a pillow behind your spine to see if it works? I tried that and it helps a bit.

Funny thing is that after i get used to the seats, it is comfortable no matter what position I change it to. I don't even need the pillow nowadays :screwedu: Anyway, all my comments same as bro 715 :)

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

after 3 months of tweaking the seat position (101 ways), i still find the seat uncomfortable especially driving for > 1 hour (non stop). the first 30-45mins are okay since my butt already adapt to the seat.

i more or less know what is the problem. my previous mazda6, the seat is wider and more flat and i like to sit "slanted" when driving. however, the e90 seat is compact and tight especially at the side (with the airbag) and the lower back support is soft.

now for long journey ride, i stop more often that before and keep silent from my wife (shame to complain that the seat is uncomfortable). just say nature call and my wife worry i got bladder problem. kekeke

there was a recent discussion in e90post.

Re: Need help to adjust the seat

make sure you are nicely braced against your seat and the steering wheel, otherwise you will experience a lot of movement. in the correct driving position, there shouldn't be any space between the seat and your back, and your bum should be nicely 'wedged' into the corner (in the 'L' of the seat, if you know what i mean).

if you have difficulty getting in and out, use the memory settings - 1 for access, 2 for driving position. adjust each until you are comfortable...
