Need help regarding BMW 135i Coupe

Hi Guys

Need help on some questions regarding the 135i.

I am gonna trade in my 320i for a 135i Coupe or Cab

1. Anyone know of any known problems for the 135i?

Gonna buy from a PI - Price seems to be about $45k cheaper than PML
Honestly i don't see a good reason to buy from PML. Changing of parts like brake disc/tyres etc i will do it outside anyway?

2. Any good PI to recommend?

3. Whats the cons of buying from PI?
PI told me if need to repair...since parts not common..might take a month?????
But since 135i is not so common in SG, PML might take 1-2weeks anyway??

4. PI told me Cab is not available...but i do see it online/youtube. SG not allowed to have or something??

5. I see some post about iDrive / Radio problems from PI who bring in the car from Japan. Mine will be from Germany. Will it have the same problem?

Thanks for replies :)

Maybe it is not common. U could check with site sponsors.

For idrive (especially SAT NAV), u might still face problem unless PI load it with Sg map. For Radio function, BMW has regional setting builit into the unit. For unit from Germany could be as follows:
Made for UK: Speedo has both MPH/KMH;
Made for German mkt: Speedo has KMH. I think this is quite rare.

Need help on some questions regarding the 135i.

I am gonna trade in my 320i for a 135i Coupe or Cab personally, cab is too heavy and coupe with minimal options except must have sunroof is ideal for me.

1. Anyone know of any known problems for the 135i? BIG PROBLEM is driver tend to drive way too fast! 4th gear @ 2900rpm you are travelling 100km/hr! if you intend to buy auto (sorry this car HAS NO DCT option) its fairly easy to drive. if its a manual, then, be aware of the reverse and 1st gear as they are spaced to close that if you have not driven a getrag 6-sp before, you may put it into reverse instead of forward and then, BANG! there's no reverse lock-out or even any feel at all if you put it in reverse except only when you release clutch slightly you will then know if you are reversing or going forward. PM me your details and i will tell you what happened before i even got my car. PML was really good at making things up to me and i will most definitely buy another new car from them.

5. I see some post about iDrive / Radio problems from PI who bring in the car from Japan. Mine will be from Germany. Will it have the same problem? search '135i' and you will see other forumers who have encountered probs with their imported cars.

Thanks for replies :)

There are a number of minor complains about the 'vert, mainly on the weight and lack of rigidity. Can check out the threads here:

There's a third possibility beside PML/PI. Get a low mileage staff car. Knocks about $40k off list. One just popped out a couple of days ago.

Whichever way you choose to lay your hands on this car, you won't regret it. My only worry is my 20-year clean driving record. Got my 1st warning 2 weeks back. Ouch.

High P(leasure) Fuel Pump

Plenty to read about in the 1Addict thread. Seems to afflict Americans more than any other. That site a bit busy now, maybe the Americans are all watching the moon crash and jam up the bandwidth.

Re: Need help regarding BMW 135i Coupe

Just make sure your car is under warrantly. And the PI's workshop is reliable. You can go check out value marques they offer quite a good price and you can go BOSS motorsport to service your car.

That's gone already in 3 days! Was it you Alexxx?

nope not me :)

Checked out a few PIs...they still checking price and leadtime for White with red seats

The more i see...the more impatient i get haha cant wait to get it!!

I was advised against getting the cab...was told the coupe would be better...cab kinda troublesome especially if someone "cut" the soft-top

Also...should i get manual or auto? was told manual will have lots of problem when reselling...

Re: Need help regarding BMW 135i Coupe

Yeah..the softtop is a bit 'inviting' in that sense.

As for Auto vs Manual, go with what you feel is your need.

The stock manual has a reported 'problem' with 1st to 2nd gear shift. You need to remove the CDV to get smooth shifting. The CDV is there to prevent your clutch from excessive wear but most manual drivers hate it. Also, the manual gear ratios are a bit different. 1st and reverse are also a bit too close. Maybe e46monster can help you more with this.

The auto gear ratios are a bit more optimized. So much so that gear changes are nearly transparent. A lot of thinking and engineering has gone into it to make it suit the 135i very very well. I use the 3 different modes for my 3 different moods while on the road and the car behave like how I wanted it to every time.

But either boxes will still bring a grin to your face. And I don't think I'm helping you with your anticipation..hahaha.

I wonder why it takes so long for PI to check pricess..........

Re: Need help regarding BMW 135i Coupe

just replace the stock CDV with a modified CDV (riss racing has them or some other tuners) and prob solved. didnt cost too much as part+shipping+installation less than SGD250.

manual vs auto -
1. lighter by about 45kg due to less components.
2. radiator runs cooler as no auto tranny cooling required.
3. can tolerate higher power output especially torque.
4. less expensive as PML offered me a 6k discount.
5. gear ratios optimised for performance and fuel consumption.
6. better performance due to less weight etc.
7. clutch needs replacing when worn.
8. availability of lightened flywheel for much quicker engine pick-up hence,
turbo spooling up quicker = more FUN!

auto vs manual -
1. easier in stop n go traffic.
2. no need for clutch balancing.
3. for less experienced drivers while fast driving easier to change gears.
4. regular maintenance else auto tranny or torque converter will kaput.

135i has no test models and for PML is only available on a special indent basis. that means, book car without test driving. but, options can be specified and tailored.

bst luck.
