Need E46 upgrade advice.

newbie here,

I recently purchased an E46. Found this site while looking for a suspension upgrade, I have a dillema I'd like some help with.

I have fitted the E46 M3 18" alloy wheels without taking into consideration the width of them as the rear wheels are wider than the standard E46 wheels . Due to this I now have a slight over hang from the rear arches which is causing the rear tyres to hit the arches when the roads become bumpy. I need to fit a more solid set of suspension to generally stiffen up the car but also stop the tyres making contact.

Does anyone have any suggestions for suspension upgrades?

thanks

Giggsy.

With wrong offset/wheels, there is nothing much you can do with coilovers - without the drop, it will only look like a 4X4. You have two choices to improve on it now......

(1) Change the wheels, get a decent set of wheels and coilovers (PSS9 or KW2) for a drop, or simply lowering springs (Eibach).

(2) Keep the wheels, do a wide-body arch on the rear fenders, and drop the car.

Else, you can simply install a set of coilovers and still look like a 4X4 - not wise spending another $2K to $2.5K just to look odd.

Re: Need E46 upgrade advice.

I thought original M3 wheels can only fit M3s......

If it's a sedan, it will only fit if all 4 original M3 wheels are the Fronts....

yep... M3 rears wont fit the E46 sedans... been discussed before...

also, believe if the M3 owner is here, he/she would have told you it wont fit the sedan...

Re: Need E46 upgrade advice.

firstly, thanks for you responses,

(Orh LuLu, yes I mean hitting the fender). il over stiffen the car enough to stop contact being made. It needs stiffening anyway.

Kentonna, I'd considered the wide arch kit but came to the conclusion it may be a little excessive, can anyone tell me what this would consist of, sounds like major surgery.

Alternatively, would the coilovers stiffen it enough to stop contact being made?
