Need advise on Shock and springs

Hello gurus,

I just found out that I need to change my front shock absorber. I would need some advice from guru like you.

I am driving E46 318i FL with a 18" wheel on stock springs and shock absorbers. I actually thought of lowering my car when I changed my wheel but was hesitant as I am not willing to give in on ride comfort. However, now that my shock absorbers need to be changed, I am reconsidering if I should do it.

Could you advise and recommend a new shock absorber and spring that I could lower my car a little yet not having to give in too much for ride comfort ? It will also be great if you have some price indication (like $1-1.5K etc)
Appreciate your help.

bro... if you go for stock equivalent replacement like the Bilstein B6, then stock springs are okie... however, if you want a harsher ride, B8s, you need to get lowering springs... cos I changed mine and without the lowering springs, it looked like a SUV... sitting high, even for my M-Tec springs which are lower than the stock ones by about 10mm...

Re: Need advise on Shock and springs

Mine are stock springs and my current ride looks really weird with my 18" wheels. However, my preference for a more comfortable ride has stop me from lowering my spring and go for a sport suspension.
Ha, I am trying to get the best of the world but may not be realistic though.

Re: Need advise on Shock and springs

you can try koni FSD shocks...good compromise for comfort...do a search on the forum and there's a few good threads on it...but i think they are not cheap...

away with comfort, with a budget of 1K+ a bit, you could go with eibach lowering springs+bilstein sport shocks...or koni sport suspension kit...should be within your budget including labour

E46 can do the Bilstein Ridecontrol already!!! Adjustable suspension, 2 programs, sport and normal. In both modes there is milisecond damper range adjustment.

If it's anything like Porsche PASM it's a killer tech!

I have been there before on my older E39. Changed to sport springs and shockers with much regret later. It was a full Bilstein setup. In the end after about 1 year of adjustments, tweaks and frustrations, I paid for it to be restored to original BMW specs using original SACHs for the best compromise in comfort and roadholding.

This is just my personal experience for practical daily driving.:juggle:
