Need advice on Engine oil pressure

Hi all,

My engine oil pressure wairning lights (at dashboard) has been showing on and off for the past two days. Based on the handbook, it is likely due to low level.

I am scheduling to send in (PML) for the 1st servicing in abt 2 months time. But before I send in, can I simply buy an equivalent engine oil to top-up before the coming service? May I know what are the recommended brands?

I also noticed that I have been given an original BMW engineer oil - SAE OW-40(car care product box) when I receive the car from PML. Can I use it for the engineer oil top-up?

Thanks.

Re: Need advice on Engine oil pressure

Yes u can use tat to top up.

Make sure u check the oil level in the morning b4 starting the engine. Top to 3/4 way or max level is fine.

If still not enuf, u can buy other oil brands like castrol, mobile one which has the same viscosity rating 0W 40.

Cheers!

Mine E39 520 have the same problem. The answer from PML was "sorry, we don't really know what's wrong with it". All i can do is every time have to turn off engine and start again, the warning light will goes off.

Thank you Whisky Tango. I will top-up tomorrow. Hopefully the warnign would go off and not like the problem reported by Francislsg.

I will keep you guys informed the outcome.

Please make sure that it is below the 2nd notch on the dip stick and u top it up as mentioned earlier.

If you have to top up, make sure u register the level and tell your CSA. A new car like urs shld not have much oil depletion.
