Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

Re: Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

Good program to watch...

Re: Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

caught it last night.

provides a quick overview of what kind of work it takes to launch a car. PR and collaboration with PS granturismo was brilliant!

doesn't give the details of the set-up of the car that beat the porsche at nordschliefe though...

reckon the setup should be mostly stock.
Usually manufacturer track times are taken with unmodded variants.

the main variables would likely be boring stuff.
like tire type/size/pressure. petrol octane. driver. air temps.

Re: Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

according to some, the godzilla that beat the porsche was tuned-up version.

i'm not saying anything, but for it to coincide with such a big launch, the japs must be pretty sure that it will better the time of the porker. otherwise damn lau kui - beamed 'live' to tokyo some more...

on the other hand, we've all learnt from the beijing olympics fireworks display that all these can be pre-recorded...

didn't know that renault has such a large stake in nissan.

OT a bit,

bro the fireworks wasn't pre-recorded. its special effects pre-render for TV viewer for perfection. the organizer did fired real fireworks on the actual location that night similar to the special effect we see on screen 'the foot print firework pattern'.

If Nissan dares to show the world on Nat Geo...I see no reasons why they should use soup-up version R35. (The lau kui title belongs to 911TT or equivalent....you go guess lor)

Long ago, teck kok kia already kenna from jipoon kia
Check Datsun 1600 SSS (rwd and now nissan produces more fwd cars) and it's ways before Skyline history.

Go check Z-tune GTR of 2.8 IL6 engine.....never been malu when it compared to 911TT 3.6 F6 engine.....any time , any track , any weather and price still half price of the said teck kok chia.

Nissan breaks the unoffical (Japan) gentleman agreeement of 280 HP for their cars......Supra, NSX, RX7 and many more with better engine power/handling akang datang. Time to change the preception in most people mind and learn to accept ang mor chia not longer the best performace/handling/safe but confim costly.
(FYI, me also got one teck kok chia called Gee Tee Bye....nnb, si ang mor overpriced it.....this car should be around S$90k if use a jipoon equivalent to compare)

I think Lehman Brothers' pre-beauty parade show is 1000x worst than Beijing Olympics "pre-recorded" (Knn, if ang mor did it will become "special effect") display......Heng ah, me need not to learn the ang mor "bongs" lesson. Whahahahahhaha..

Ah Leng says one! :lol2:

Re: Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

yup, i know that the fireworks did actually go off. but what we saw 'live' on TV wasn't the same thing that was happening at the bird's nest. the organisers pre-empted that the conditions were less than perfect and did not beam the actual on-ground feed.

anyways, it was a good effort on their part to make sure that everything was perfect for the rest of the world to see. which other country would go to such lengths?

Re: Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

After watching the show I was very impressed by the daring and vision of Carlos Ghosn. He did not rush the project and the only insistence was on retaining the signature tail lights.

Anyway with the economy the way it is and the general trend to smaller cars I suspect the GTR will sadly be the last performance car we see from true "mass market" manufacturers. There will always be the Ferraris/Lambos/Porsches but I don't think the market is ready for more Supras/NSXs.

Re: Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

The show was pretty well put together.
An hour well spent.

The manga storyboards, good stuff.

Re: Nat Geo - Inside: Supercar (GTR episode) tonight

Just watched the show and while it isn't as comprehensive as a fanboi would like it to be, I think it is quite watchable and well put together and helped recapture some of the excitement during/before its release. I remember the whole internet frenzy in the UK GTR forums watching the countdown clock at the pre-release site. Heck, even all the crazy downloads I made on GT5 Prologue demo and waiting for the car to be unlocked in the game ;)

Yes, it isn't a technical documentary, but then this isn't really the documentary for it. It just shows you all the other stuff behind the scenes.. the industrial design, the marketing etc and not just the engineering stuff.
