Any bros know where I can get the e60 recon gearbox? Any idea what's the damage of replacing?

Re: Mwtb e60 pre LCI recon gearbox

You can check with Khang's Automatic Transmission T 64565200...
BTW, what happen to your gearbox?
The common problem with E60 is the faulty valve body rather than the Gearbox....
And the "valve body" is less than half the price of the gearbox....

Just curious what mileage you clocked before the gearbox show signs of fault? Can check out TopSpeed Motors in Pandan Loop & KATC Khang Auto's. Recon gearbox should be around $2.5K or less depends on what is faulty. Pre-LCI E60 are using ZF transmission, can also consider going to R2D for a check, I did my 60K transmission oil flush there. My 6.5 yrs old pre-LCI E60 now had clocked mileage of 74K, just hope the ZF will last before COE expiry.

Last month, my friend sold his 6.5yrs old E60 which had clocked 140K mileage to dealer at export price as the gearbox was showing sign of problems

Just curious, what gearbox problems did your friend encounter? A bit worry as my car just crossed 100,000km last week. Fingers crossed, touch wood everyday and pray that my gearbox will last till I sell the car in 2-3 years may be.

Re: Mwtb e60 pre LCI recon gearbox

My car is running at 120k plus mileage now and have since experience the jerk before stop symptom. Send my car to PML for the EGS adaption and was told that they are unable to perform the adaption and mostly is due to the gearbox fault. So i went to one of the BMW appointed contractor and was told that mostly likely need to replace the valve body for about 3.8k. Otherwise cheaper option is to replace the solenoids at 1.8k but it will last only 1-2yrs. All parts brand new. Any bro got any idea If the cost is reasonable?

Did you go for 2nd opinion at KATC or Top Speed? The Top speed owner, indy chap who can speak dialects is a European trained gearbox expert. Seek his advice and neg with him.

Something like intermittent jerky gearbox and clutch worn-out etc. Was quoted repair of $10K which I think should be PML price, outside workshop should be much cheaper. Think after he heard $10K repair, chicken out, quickly sell off the car and got himself a used Merc

Strangely, the car was sold via the dealer to another buyer within a week, either the new owner is unsuspecting or the dealer could have done minimal repair to the tranny

One thing for sure must buy extended warranty, I bought mine from KATC @ $600 per year. All these gear box problem are honoured in their warranty coverage, It's a small $ to pay for peace of mind, it's like insurance, covered when there is no problem.

Will the gearbox eventually die (as in car cannot move at all) or it just continue to jerk? How bad is the jerking? Every gear change will jerk or just jerk when slowing down to a stop?

Guess manual gearbox is still the best.

I never asked him in details, but he always lament his car is a piece if sh1t, but I am happy with my E60, but I do preventive maintenance like tranny fluid flush at 60K mileage etc. I think at 140K mileage, his gearbox oil never change at all thinking really is lifetime fill

I think also must depend on luck, one of my friend '06 523, gear box already clocked 150K now also no problem, only change engine mount once, still running strong.
