Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

Dear All,

My driver's seat has this irritating sound/movement. Whenever I accelerate or brake hard, the seat seems to "give" a little, moving in the forward or rearward direction according to the forces generated.

PML as usual cannot detect the problem, despite me sitting in the car with a tester. They even seem to think I'm crazy, especially when I bring up a warranty claim issue...

Driver's weight may be a small factor but it does not detract from the fact that the seat does move.
Anyone has this problem before and where can I go to sort this out?

TIA

Cheers

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

Hey Ed, I would ask PML to dismantle the whole seat and refit again. There is no way that the seat can move on its own. Its downright dangerous! Touch wood but u don't want a situation when an incident occurs and the whole seat moves forward and throws ur face into the steering wheel, with or without the airbag deploying!

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

bro... this is a good thing leh... this means that your car is powerful, thus having strong inertia when you accelerate hard... hehe.. and then your brakes are good.. :p

juz kidding bro !!!

agree with azrielsc... it is somewhat dangerous... juz keep complaing and complaining and ensure they do their job..

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

it's just very slight movement, like one or two mm.
beautiful part is that PML "solved" the problem twice before. However this third time, another SA attended to me and this time they didn't detect the problem.

PML irritates me, so i'm wondering if any outside workshop can deal with this issue.
Anyways, i'm due for an oil change soon, and i'll go down and make a bit of noise... again...
Thanks.

cheers.

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

got to them n check again n bang table.
seats r very impt, 1 to 2mm can lead 3,4,5mm....

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

let me test drive and confirm is not the driver's weight problem....
pass me the key

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

My take: it's a certain `give'. It's not that the seat is moving, `give' is a matter of flex, and if the flex happens in a high friction area you get a squeak. As mentioned, driver's weight has a lot to do with it.

I think in the past PML did not solve it in the past, they merely lubricated the interface.

I have similar squeaks under moderate acceleration, hard acceleration you can't hear it coz the engine is loud. Some silicone lubricant solves it all.

i understand the "give" bit... but my case is a little different.
a distinct "click" and "shift" is felt and heard.

i thought was the bolts of the track but tightening the bolts didn't do much. it kinda feels like the gears of the electric motor is "weak" and thus the "give",,,,

make any sense?

cheers

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

Edwin, your car too fast already.
PML always give you shit service. So dont bother going to them...

Might as well get BVO or SWC to have a look at it...

Or better still, Sparco/Recaro seats!

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

ed...nothing wrong with the car.... its just the car hinting for bucket seat.... hehehe

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

could this be caused by a broken "tooth" from the gear on the electric motor??

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

this is a notorious problem with the Z3. do a search on this, as it might be the same for your car. if it is, to cure the problem u may need to change the bushings to PU ones.

got it... cool and thanks...
certainly looks like the same problem.

gotta go deal with the brilliant PML service department now.... sigh...

cheers

Re: Moving/Noisy Driver's Seat

what car are you driving? if it's a manufacturer's problem, then no matter how many times they change it, the problem will soon come back. I've got the z3 seat rails entirely changed a couple of times back then, up till the warrenty period is up, then gave up.

E92 M3...
Quite disconcerting when moving at a brisk pace and your seat moves.

Spoke to my CSA and he'll sort it out with the SA and will assist in any warranty issues when I bring it in on Friday for oil change...

it seems that this is an acknowledged problem so hopefully PML will do something about it.

May post on M3post to see if others have this problem also... Sigh...

Thanks.

Cheers
