Since 323 and 325 using same engine but detuned.
How to tune it back to have same power as 325?

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

Cud be a lot of components involved incl cams, throttle body, exhaust system set up etc...which in the end probably is gonna cost just as much as getting the 325 plus some headache and time spent and IMO, aint worth it.

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

or maybe via a piggyback/ ECU reflash, if anybody has done up the necessary R&D already.

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

wow, so meaning same engine but still must mod so much thing. so the price increment is worth it lah.

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

Of coz, there is always a reason for such obvious difference.

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

I would just get the 325i. No point in trying to maximize the engine potential by modding ur self.

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

I dun think tuners have managed to retune a 323i to a 325i capability yet. In the meantime, you can juz rebadge if u wanna:lol2:

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

yeah, you are paying road tax for a 2.5L engine anyways.

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

this is the same issue with the 523 and 525. i have scoured the web intensively but at most found anecdotal evidence regarding the differences. whats interesting is that:
- engine part numbers are identical
- no photos exist to show/indicate the difference (not even from the tuners)
- no torque maps issued by BMW for 523 engine (not that i know)

so there is still hope .... at least I wish :)

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

The engine block is identical no doubt.....

Everything else is not.... The engine block is not the whole engine since there r a lot of attachment to it..

The manifold, throttle body bore diameter etc all r different. Also, the car is running on different compression.. U need to raise the compression to get the additional oomph !! Increasing compression means strip engine......

If BMW just uses a programme to bring down 40hp, then who will buy a 325 /525 cos they know aftermarket tuner will break the code in matter of months...

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

I don't think there's a large difference in cost between the R6 x23 and x25 engines. Why the hell did they make the detuned x23 in the first place? Why should the x25 engine cost so much more?

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

I am no expert to car tuning. But to me, as some brudders said, there is a reason for the $40k difference. Its like a computer. would u buy the stock desktop with all the specs u want? or would u go to Sim Lim square n customise and mod one. Sometimes things u put in are incompatible. Anyway my good old sim lim square PC kaput liao in jusy 12 months.

The 325i 's extra power had been tested and tested as a product before its sold. if u mod a 323 to a 325, is it tested? Not to mention that u may in the end have some minimal savings assuming u can get that 40 bhp afterall, but does the damn modded car drives properly like the 325i...well I dont know and I will not take the risk. For all you know if it only cost u say $20k, it may well be $20k down the toilet bowl. Just 2 cts.

the SGD40K is probably the highest price difference you'll ever pay between an X23 and an X25, thanks to PML in Singapore.

Options listed are different, but if you browse the other forums, the price difference is

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

with the record market shares, sales and profits for PML in Singapore right now, its unlikely to change anything.

up to customers now to vote with their wallets and support parallel importers and independent workshops:) .

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

I support parallel importors. They should bring in the E91 and 1-series BMWs, and also the 4-wheel drive 3 and 5 series. The premium PML charges for the next higher model is rediculous, in the USA its only a few grand but here, its several tens of thousands. Thats why my stupid german colleague whole life poking fun at me, make silly grins....haigh....

Re: Mod 323i to 325i

this is my first BMW -i'm assessing how well independent workshops are able to service the car due to its i-drive and integrated electronics. if it turns out well, my next BMW will be an import :yummie:
