It is better to spend money on oil change for the peace of mind.
Extract from my E90 manual, so check your E65's manual too:
"Do not use any oil additives, as they could lead to engine damage under some circumstances"
Even BMW cover their own arse with regards to additives. So if something happen, they can point to page xxx, and say "see I told you so".

Although the website did not mentioned what metal was coated, I believe its either molybdenum or zinc dialkyldithiophosphate or other compounds that has similar properties. These compounds are known to adhere to metal surfaces to cover up the tiny pits caused by wear as well as smoothening the surface.
Some engine oils already contain such additives so it may not be necessary to add it in.
I am not exactly sure abt magnesium alloy but I think it will work as well. This is because the MSO2 (molybdenum disulphate) particles adhere themselves to the metal surface like a coating. Its also used in plastics as well as bullets (mainly copper).jawzsg;286027 said:I think molybdenum and zinc complexes are know to be exceptionally good for steel. It would likely to work on some other hard alloy but I have yet read any articles on the magnesium alloy block which the new bimmer engine has.
Any metallurgist expert care to clarify? most obliged.

I read an article with same results in wheels asia ... i guess the difference is this is not an oil thickener ... I also read a few very positive testimony from the "star" brand owners.
After all ... this is Swiss !!!
Cheers
