Hi There

I started off this thread and have now thought It best to continue it over here in the appropriate Forum

Please can you share your Pics of the Mclaren F1 - if there are any which are posted on here that I don't have in my 12,000+ collection I'll share one of more rare pictures, taken by myself, by way of a thank you.

As stated in the newbie thread, I have personally seen 13 F1's over the years. I have also got about 25 F1 1/18 models, 2 1/12 models and 1 piece of luggage from XP5, the car that obtained 240.1mph on the Ehra Leissen test track to set the world speed record for a production car, before being eclipsed by the Veyron.

I am more than willing to share some of my pics, but I would be thankful If you guys posted some on here too

Look forward to hearing from you

PS If you have any requests for pics / info relating to the F1, I'll see what I can find for you

Greg

Re: Mclaren F1

why does the blue one hv the side mirror at the top of the A pillar...n the rest doesnt?

Re: Mclaren F1

Toto, its cuz it didn't pass most countries' regulations, hence its only the 1st few prototypes that had the "mickey mouse" ears so never made it into "mass" production. :)

Not accurate as far as I am aware. I've never heard of #001 being anywhere but in the UK (apart from being on show at Nice Airport, France). I believe the only ones currently in Singapore are #018 and #065

The blue one (and the 'orange' one posted earlier too, as well as at least 2 others, maybe 3) had the 'high mirors'. The first car, what they call the 'Clinic Model', was the show car at the launch in Monaco. this had the high mirrors; one of Ralph Laurens 3 F1's [#055] has the high mirrors too, as well as the blue one [#040] and the orange one mentioned earlier too [#071].
The original design concept for the F1 featured side mirrors mounted on the A-pillar with an integrated turn signal as well. During the development process McLaren learned that the design would not satisfy the regulations for road use and so the mirrors were changed for a more traditional style once the first few running prototypes were built.
At some point in the production process one customer requested that McLaren find an acceptable way to integrate that mirror design into their car during the build. McLaren ended up utlizing the mirror fitted to the BMW Z1 and in order to account for the added stress on the doors, changes were made to the carbon fiber in that section. Although the major component was an off-the-shelf part from BMW, apparently this "option" was quite pricey - to the tune of around £25,000 or so. This is why cars all through the production run.

I've added pics of all the known F1's with the high mirror option

Re: Mclaren F1

i must say they look ugly with the high mirrors....the normal mirrors r way better.

Re: Mclaren F1

The first one above, the Clinic Model, is my least favourite; however the orange one is near the top of my favourites
