Maximum offset without rubbing the fender

Hi guys,

I'd like to ask what is the max I can push my rims to without rubbing the fender?

I'm driving a E90 320i M sport stock lowered.

Currently I'm running the stock 193M 8JX18" ET34 front with 8.5JX18" rear ET37.

BMW's OEM seems to suggest that that is the most it recommends. But I see a lot of really sexy rides with flush wheels and my butt is getting a little itchy.

My prior experience with flush wheels on my B7 A4 was that with wheels that flush, fender rub was inevitable. But my springs on that car wasn't done properly so I'm hoping that with a proper suspension set up and advice from you knowledgeble brothers and sisters out there with your sexy rides, I can set mine up nicely too.

Thanks a bunch.

Re: Maximum offset without rubbing the fender

The following was on my E90 320 LCI: Front: 19x8.5, +35; Rear: 19x10, +37. If don't want to roll fender, can probably make the rear less aggressive by 2-3mm.

Re: Maximum offset without rubbing the fender

Eugene, do consider the following:

~ What tyres will your be using? The shape of the shoulder block will play a part on the rubbing issue.
~ What wheels width? F 8.0 R 9,0 or F 8.5 R 9.5 or F 8.5 R 10.0 ? Wwhat tyre width you wanna run on? 235/265 or 245/275 ?
~ Will / have you roll(ed) your rear fenders?

I am assuming your ride is a LCI e90. gr8golf88's DPE offset is the most aggressive that you can run, assuming you want F 8.5 R 10.0.

Thank you both.

Wow, gr8golf88, yours is seriously sexy. But running 10 at the rear? You have 275s at the back?

Hmmm... great questions kenntona. I'm running 255s at the rear now and they look a tad narrow. So I guess 245/275 will make a more significant visual difference. But I am concerned over the strain on the steering box. My A4 developed steering box wear after 4 years because (and this is me guessing) my tires were 245s when they should be 225s.

As for tyres, I should be sticking to RE050s. I'd wanted to go RE011 like I did on my old car, but I don't think they have run flats.

And, no I'm not gonna roll my fenders. I want to leave the bodywork as original as possible.

Given that, I'm guessing following in gr8golf88's 10Jx19" is out of the question.

So I guess I'll be looking at 8JX18"/9JX18" 235/265. btw, it's not recommended by tire manufacturers but has anyone fit 265 on 8.5J rims before?

Oh yes, and another question, I noticed that OEM for the M3 is f245/r265 40s 18" which gives a 0.6" diameter difference. I'm not familiar with BMWs but my experience with cars so far is that you should try and keep diameters as similar as possible front to rear. While it hasn't crossed the 3% tolerence level, should we be running that set up?

Helps estimate how close you could get to the fenders........

Thanks bro, but I guess what I'm asking is with an existing f 8x18 +34 / r 8.5x18 +37 setup, how much more space do I have before the wheels start rubbing the fenders.

I'm open to the idea of spacers too.

Use measuring tape to measure space now. Then use the above calculator to calculate.

The guru has spoken ...........;)

Re: Maximum offset without rubbing the fender

front = 8.5j +35 with 235
rear = 9.5j +33 with 265

these are the common setup made by many reps (vmr, alufelgen, miro, avantgarde, etc) to achieve flush look and yet no need to roll fender

of coz if you want super flush and customise wheel to meet your specific needs you got dpe, hre, etc :)

for the front , u can bring down to +30 and rear to +25
so if u play wif spacers, we r talking bout roughly 5 n 10mm spacers respectively, quite safe
