If you see this in yr rear view mirror while you are speeding...

Don't even bother :)

I am not even sure if a Scuderia or 997 GT2 could outrun this!!

Re: MATA CHIA!!! Be vewwy vewwt afwaid!

ps it's supposed to be a patrol car for the ring road around London...

wooooaaaaaa

Re: MATA CHIA!!! Be vewwy vewwt afwaid!

Win liao! Hand my car keys over to the cop at the same time. Take bus for the rest of my life.

Re: MATA CHIA!!! Be vewwy vewwt afwaid!

think it's just a promo thingy

Caparo: police issue

Caparo have joined forces with the Metropolitan Police to come up with this T1 showpiece.

It's obviously never going to become a real world patrol vehicle, but the very idea is enough to fuel a good few minutes of school boy like day dreams.

Imagine how quickly you could get through town in this with the sirens blaring?

It is however real enough to be making an appearance at this week's MPH show, that's on from November 1-4 at Earls Court, London and next week on the 8-11 at Birmingham's NEC. Get tickets here.

:lol2: Good one

Can also be,

"If you can't see this behind means you're speeding."

"If you see this behind means you are road hogging."

Just watched latest episode of Top Gear. Hilarious as usual..

Anyway, the only way to escape this is if:
a. Jeremy Clarkson is driving it AND
b. you are going round slow corners

haha!!

According to JC, this car was designed to have grip (lots of it) only at high speeds. Otherwise the car is too lightweight and does not have enough downforce on the tyres to maintain traction.

But that's just his BS. With the STIG at the wheel, it broke all of Top Gear's record for "production" road cars, beating the Koennithingamabob with the Top Gear spoiler and the Enzo. Unfortunately, it didn't qualify for the board cos it failed the "speed hump" test.

You're right.. JC and JC-led-era Top Gear talk a lot of rubbish. They should just keep their flowery nonsense to the subjective elements where they can get away with it, because it's not going to happen with the objective ones.

There are all sorts of racing go-karts. They are very light vs even the lightest cars, do not have any real downforce, and yet they have lots of grip and are fast.. as long as the track is somewhat smooth.

There is no such thing as too light a downforce or zero lift car. The lighter a downforce or zero lift car and/or the more tire you have under it, the less downforce it needs. The problem with high downforce cars (unless you load the uprights instead of the sprung mass (which hasn't been done for decades due to ban) is springing to handle the aero load and not run out of suspension travel or bottom out the car, but ending up extremely harsh even over low speed bumps and curb strikes. It is much less of a problem on smooth roads.

Re: MATA CHIA!!! Be vewwy vewwt afwaid!

another problem I read, about high downforce cars, is hard braking. When the car is at speed, the braking can be very hard and the wheels will not lockup, but as you brake, the downforce disappears more and more, and you have to brake less and less hard otherwise you lockup.

Re: MATA CHIA!!! Be vewwy vewwt afwaid!

exactly.. downforce cars can always benefit from greater break torque through bigger discs, higher friction materials, etc. I wanted to mention that on the recent brake thread but haven't had time yet. On that thread there are also errors on which way bias goes to destabilize a car, disc size to brake modulation ease relation, and the primary benefits of CC brakes.

thats not a problem .. its an advantage where u could literally stomp in the brake pedal at speed. the team which can produce a car (brake) to maximise tyre grip at high downforce will have advantage.

Re: MATA CHIA!!! Be vewwy vewwt afwaid!

but when the car slows down you lose downforce and the tyre will lock. To maximize braking, you must progressively feel impending lockup and brake less.

I have done impending lockup braking before at static downforce and it is damn difficult to do consistently.

F1 guys can do it consistently, my god.

Yeah, with the STIG at the wheel, it was scarily fast.
