MALSINGMAPS...err hmm how to download into memory stick

I have a Garmin which I use as a backup to the BMW satnav. Now how do you download malsingmap into a memory stick and use it on Gramin. Is there any step by step instruction?

1. Make sure you have downloaded the file meant for Garmin e.g. nuvi.
Avoid downloading the mapking version.

2. Usually they have a zipped or non zipped version. You should have this file: gmapsupp.img

3. Connect your garmin nuvi set using the usb cable to your PC. It should be able to detect it as a DRIVE.

Next, make sure that you save the original copy of the gmapsupp.img . This original file is under the garmin directory of your nuvi set.

Next, replace that file with this newer version gmapsupp.img

4. POI's (points of interest) are different. So long as it is downloaded into the card, your garmin nuvi will detect these new files and asks you "silly" question.. like " Hey AhBeng! want me or not?" Then just say Yes, and it will be uploaded into the memory of the system.

i prefer to download to sd card and not overwrite the main map stored on the main memory.

its a simple extract to

Thumbdrive:\Garmin

followed by other POIs into the Garmin\POI folder...

if you like you can also install MapSource from Garmin and have more detailed maps on your computer which can be sent to the GPS.

Some people give a donation of USD20 to a Jerome Wee for 'unlocked' more detail maps...

And you can also obtain FREE maps from Malfreemaps.com

Currently, the strong points is that their maps have ICONS and for certain nuvi garmins, I am able to use a combined malsing with malfree the best of two worlds!
