Looks like a *sticker* job! The matt black vinyl used for dechroming window trims......

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

Gen Concept can do it !!!

I think there are at least 2 GTRs with matt black scheme.........

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

some how, it reminds me of the vew matt green military GP cars i keep seeing on the road these few days

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

anyone has any idea the approx cost of doing this?

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

I think its $1k - $2k.
Depending on what car model also...

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

It looks cool but sorry for asking. Is it bird shit proof? ;-p

good question.. flat black would always be more susceptible to stains compared to regular paint jobs... to if its bird poo... best to wash it off asap...

otherwise.. if the stain's stuck... get the bird to do a symmetrical poo job of the other side of the car..

If it is a decal, of course it is bird-shit proof.

herman, friend of mine called to check...at least 3K to do whole car man.

seems like cheaper to spray paint whole car instead of wrap with full decal

Reversible means resale value not affected?

At least that's what a C4S owner has said, when he decalled the whole car from dark blue to orange.

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

had pondered long and hard on whether to do this and was looking for advice in my previous thread.

the reasons i didn't do it:-
- costs more than repainting.
- difficult to upkeep - kena birdshit will stain the matt sticker as demonstrated by gen concept.
- will still get stone chips as the sticker is not thick enough.

so unless you want to change the colour of your car without respraying, go ahead.

but even respraying the whole car another colour doesn't cost that much...

jinooi, i thought about it long and hard like you too.

Pros:
as ken mentioned, reversible and means resale value not affected. but even then, how much is the effect? im not sure about porsches but if we're talking about e46 and more than say 4 or 5 years, at most 1 or 2K bargaining chip for dealer etc.

Cons:
of course, higher cost (about 2X the price for "normal" cars) is the biggest factor. on top of that, stone chips, bird shit as mentioned, even minor scrapes if damn suay means replacing the entire decal for that particular panel, whereas if spray painted can just touch up if not serious or deep.

i think to sum it up, whole car change colour = respray, but, if you want designs on parts of the car here and there but not full-on, then decals' reversibility and versatility is the way to go for sure.

all that said, anyone got lobang for good respray to matte colour? price and details appreciated too..

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

Just saw one matt painted earlier today at Tg katong area. paint job did not look quite as good as there were some patchy areas....

Re: make a statement...e46 statement that is

Ive had 2 x matt black cars. The second one I painted myself, cost me $40 in paint and 2-3 hours one Saturday afternoon.
