Maintenance for my E39

Bro, why not go to the workshops that some forumers frequent such as BVO and Juzz for Cars?

Hi there,

Encountered the same issues with my previous ride, a E46, wheel bearings died on me past 87,000km (clocked unbelievable mileage on that babe, did something like 120,000km in 4 years)

Changed mine at Juzz4cars at about 70% of what I was quoted, no complains with workmanship and thought it was value for money. Also understand that there are a few others that do pretty decent work for Beemers like BVO etc. You should ask around before deciding, guess, at the end of the day it'll all boil down to how "comfortable" you are.

PML price is high cos they got many mouth to feed as well as commitment to their client and principle.

Outside workshop do not need to commit to spare parts (for the whole car...they only buy the parts when you need them from stockist). No need to maintain a nice showroom...coffee machine....their emergency recovery vehicle etc....

So no matter how you look at it...outside workshop will forever be cheaper. Check with either BVO or Juzz For Cars...they more or less specialist in BMW only.

Thank you Marko-Polo and Ghostrider,

What will hapeen if I don't change the wheel bearings hah ? Will it cause the wheels to kapok ? I wonder if it can be due to my tire width (245/R17/45) .....

Btw, how long to change at BVO or Juzz for cars... I need the car all the time.

Wheel bearing needs to go only when there is a loud roaring noise when on the move...

Only when the roar is ignored that the bearing will come into pieces but that will take a while unless u decided to go sideway all the time, which will accelerate the process...

And if there is no audible noise, u don normally have to change the bearing...

Hope this helps...

Every component has a lifespan but is variable if it is a wear & tear item. As this wheel bearing is a rotatable item which is dependable on the frequency of usage and loading.

If you do not change it, noise from that bearing will get louder and unbearable at critical stage. In terms of mechanical parts, noise equates to vibration and vibration equates to higher dimensional tolerance run out. Wear and Tear will accelerate at exponential rate here on until mechanical fatigue.

When this happens, bearing will seized (u might get a locked wheel if your wheel shaft/axle is strong) but usually the shaft will undergo a torsional shear and breaks if one end is fixed mounted.

And other components along the line will fail as the harmonic vibration is very harmful.

So better change it for a better and smoother ride.

Clap clap clap..........................
