In what is surely to be a long teaser campaign, BMW has released first details for the production ready M3 CRT (Carbon Racing Technology).

Previously revealed as the BMW M3 GTS Sedan Concept, the lightweight model is basically a sedan version of the M3 GTS Coupe, the most extreme 3-Series-based factory car of the current E92 generation. Unfortunately the extra two doors bring a little extra weight - 90 kg (198 lbs) to be exact, making for a total of 1580 kg (3483 lbs), but still 45 kg (100 lbs) lighter than a stock M3 sedan.

The saved weight is in due part to the carbon fiber hood, seats and roof as well as the titanium exhaust. Design tweaks include blacked out twin kidney grilles with matching hood vents. Fender side blades accented in red along with a carbon fiber luggage lid spoiler. Inside, special rear seats, door sills and door panels get carbon fiber and aluminum decorative trim.

Although not officially released yet, the powerplant from the GTS Coupe is expected to transfer over to the M3 CRT. That engine is a 4.4-litre V8 based on the 4.0-litre engine found in the standard M3. Maximum power is 450 PS (331 kW / 444 bhp) an increase of 30 PS (22 kW / 29.5 bhp) and the transmission is the 7-speed M dual clutch transmission (M-DCT) with adapted shift characteristics. The M3 CRT runs 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds - 0.3 seconds faster than the standard M3 sedan. Top speed is 290 km/h (180 mph).

Utilizing the same 19-inch aluminum wheels as the GTS Coupe, tire sizes are slightly narrower with 245/35 tires up front and 265/30s at the rear. Front brake discs are 378 x 32mm at the front and 380 x 28mm out back and get squeezed by six piston calipers.

Sounds good, right? Well, don't get too excited as the limited edition will only be available to 67 well connected BMW customers. Price in Germany will be EUR 130.000.- incl. VAT. So, keep dreaming BMW fan boys.

u intend to buy ??

I can resist anything but temptation :)

This looks very tempting, but is it even going to find its way here?

If it does, Munich must make it very tempting for us!

Re: M3 CRT Edition - any for SG?

yes it's sold out. buy the normal one and customise it like the CRT

Re: M3 CRT Edition - any for SG?

I doubt it's sold out. It's still in the teaser phase.

SE says Munich bringing it in.

Not just cosmetics that excite - it's the GTS motor being shoe-horned in. And quite a bit of CF bits.

Sold out usually means being snapped up by the dealers worldwide. Not sold out to consumers. This is what I understand.

Re: M3 CRT Edition - any for SG?

Went to check out the CRT at Munich Auto today and the info I've got from them is that they are bringing in 2 units and its already sold.

Re: M3 CRT Edition - any for SG?

Wouldn't this be ridiculously over-priced, like the GTS?

Don't get the wrong, I love the car, but I think you would be paying a premium for exclusivity, and not sum of the parts.

Re: M3 CRT Edition - any for SG?

Anyone still keen on this car? :)
