M Bootlid Installation

Can I find out if the sticking on of the M boot lid on an E46 can be done easily?
Is the double sided tape pre-cut, so that we don't need to cut it ourselves.
As for the positioning, is there any standard?

Thanks

(1) It is easy for some, not so for others. If you are a handyman type, then it could be easy. You have to align it 2 dimensions - against the trunk in the middle, and the right protrusion from the sides. And remember the spoiler is a curve - best is to get another helper.
(2) You have to pre-cut the 3M tape - if wrong alignment against the trunk, do not re-use. It has to be secured - else might end up on some other cars. Not kidding. Can be ripped off if not secured.
(3) Curvature slightly out of trunk. Best is to drive down to BVO or Yew Lip, or come to the meet-up and see how it should be aligned.

Re: M Bootlid Installation

If you can, go to Eng Soon and buy a pre-cut roll of OEM BMW tape specially made for bootlid spoiler installation. According to many people, it won't peel off after some time, unlike other 3M ones.

The length is about the length of the M3 bootlid spoiler. You will still need to trim off a bit. Just tell them the tape for sticking on the bootlid spoiler and they'll knnow what it is.

Re: M Bootlid Installation

Get the BMW tape for sticking the bootlid spoiler. It's about S$15 or S$18 (can't remember too clearly now). PML or Eng Soon would have it.

The tape is damn solid. Very much like the 3M Command adhesive, except that it's much stronger.

Also, like what has been said before, the spoiler is CURVED, so 2 person job would make it much much easier. Measure twice (or many times) and stick once!

Very safe to DIY. I did it myself (first time one person, and wasted one roll of tape). :)

Re: M Bootlid Installation

I ordered one with 3M tape provided....so better to use the BMW tapes instead incase kanna swap? :)

Its normal for replica bootlids as they are not made as "curved" as original bootlids. Saw a couple of forumers purchase rep bootlids and they have the same problem as you. Easiest way is to silicon the darn thing on :)
