Lowering ride

Hi,

pls help/advise what is the best option in cost and comfort for E90 320i, am on 19inch.

Do not wish to spend too much on coilover but worry will just changing the spring alone affect the shock lifespan and comfort.

Re: Lowering ride

Go for ST Coilover :) :)

Re: Lowering ride

Lowering springs will be the cheapest.

1st 5 months will ride well........later when it get's bouncy.....then you know the shocks are wearing down......

Shocks wear rate also depends on the mileage of your existing shocks too....

Koni FSD is good too! But they're only 4 uprated shocks.....U'll still need to buy lowering springs either H&R or Eibach.....

Check the cost for lowering springs + Koni FSD......it might be close to the ST coilovers that I have......

Cheers

Re: Lowering ride

If you are patient, you could get a new M suspension from one of the bros here who wish to upgrade their 335s. Ride is lowered by 5mm. I'm on KW V2 cause couldn't afford Cross along with the other multitude of mods I have planned...sigh!

Re: Lowering ride

With large stylish rims like yours, your black E90 will certainly look much more sleek and streamlined when lowered; more "panther-like"!

I considered exactly the same options as you. With lowered springs, my stock shocks would not be working in their optimal range. I considered Koni FSD too, but FSD is designed to work best with stock spring heights, not lowered springs. To maximise handling, I learned that springs & shocks must be designed to match each other perfectly. Last thing I wanted was an imperfect match or compromised "solution." Then I'd have to spend more getting rid of it.

I read up thoroughly for several weeks and consulted with a variety of experienced people. The conclusion was that coilovers would be the ideal solution, incorporating springs and shocks engineered to work perfectly in tandem. I also found that KW/ST are the market leaders for "reasonably priced" coilovers. ST coilovers cost slightly more than the FSD shock/Eibach Spring combo but you get an complete and properly engineered coilover system.

I shopped around and finally settled on V2's from Wilman2772, who provided best pricing and 100% professional advice and care from beginning to end. He usually has the coilovers in stock too, unlike other vendors who require a whole month to indent!

I've had the KW's for two months now, and I can say that the driving experience is one of far greater security, precision and focus. You might be surprised by the improved handling capability locked/hidden within your E90. Comfort-wise, I enjoy the firmness and security of the KW's. Stock suspension feels too soft and bouncy in comparison.

Re: Lowering ride

may i know what is the service interval for KW or ST coilover ?
can this coilover be serviced locally (aka within a day job) and what is the serviced amount like.

Re: Lowering ride

i read with interest and noted that ST coilover is made by the same company that make KW coilover.
and ST coilover is equivalent to KW V1.
so, how do you decide to get ST or KW V1 ?
if ST is cheaper then sure will get ST la if both ST and KW V1 gives "equivalent" result and works the same

Re: Lowering ride

Anyway, my last set of the ST coilovers for E9X is sold.

Now only KW V1 in stock.

Cheers
