Low OIL Level so fast ?!

Just took delivery of my E60 LCI 523 about 2 weeks ago... Mileage reads 1800KM and just got prompt to top up my engine oil .... My pre-FL 523 only needed an oil top up at about 8k+ and i thought they improved the oil-gustling nature on the LCI model... hmmm ... wonder if any of the other LCI guys have encountered this problem too??

It's OK if your sensors are OK, this is normal. Problem is - are your sensors OK? Any white smoke?

IMHO, my bet is that the pre-delivery inspection not done well. Everybody assume that the factory pours in the right amount of oil with the dispensing system, well there can be errors.

If your piston rings are severly worn, then the EML light would have come on by now cos the CAT would have been choked.

Maybe can ask the CSA for an explanation, may prob get a bottle of oil free..

Yup ... I suspected it might be due to poor PDI .. nothing unusual from PML .. haha!! But my sensors were working OK cos it really ran out of engine oil .. but i do remember checking the oil level at delivery and thought it was about 2/3 full ... Hmmm

the oil level is best measure when the car is properly warm up. I did a top-up @ around 7K+/- when BC show 3/5 bar. till now 23K+/- is 3/5 again. not gonna top up cos she is going in for virgin servicing soon.

before 25,000km i was told it might need topup. that's why they give you that bmw goodie bag with care car products and a bottle of 1 litre engine oil.

had to top mine up at about 12,000km... after that it was all right. I was told that after 25,000km if it still drops means something wrong and was told to send it back for checks...

imho, i think thats ridiculous that you have to top up so early

all, there is a reason the engine has so much oil inside, if it is lower than full, top it up always

I was told by a Senior CSA that for the Valvetronic car, the engine tolerance is actually bigger hence the increased oil consumption.

BMW sets the guideline to 700ml / 1000km !!!! That means it should drain the 7L in 10,000km.

its normal, mine consume engine oil before 1st servicing. it will be normal after the 1st servicing. not to worry

My Z4 had low level engine oil warning after 7000km.

From what i have read in other forums, it could very well be your oil sensor crapping out too. Dont discount that as well. People reported normal oil levels after changing it.
