Re: Looking for a BMW cabriolet
Karenshtan,
If u wish to scrap your ride, you need to know some numbers. e.g., u need to know what is your OMV and COE rebate (together they are collectively called paper value) plus a rough idea of how much your car body is worth.
To find out your paper value, juz go to one.motoring website and look for the module on deregistration, follow the prompts and it will churn out a number for u.
Once u know the paper value, time to do some shopping. Go to ST Classified, look under exporters and call them. Tell them the make, model, year of manufacture, colour, mileage etc of your car. They will ask u how much u asking. Juz tell them u prefer they quote. Once u have called a handful, u will have a rough sense how much the car body is worth.
Another question the exporter will ask u is whether u want your paper back. If u do not intend to buy a new car, than you wld not need the paper. U wld want cash or cashier's order payment for the paper value and the car value.
But wait, here is the catch. If u do not wish to take back your paper value, the exporter will deduct abt 5.5% from the paper value (this percentage fluctuates and can be lower or higher than 5.5%). This is their "risk" of holding on to your paper to sell to others.
So for discussion sake, if your paper is $70k and car body value is $10k, u can either choose to (i) get back your physical paper + $10k or (ii) 94.5% of paper in terms of money form and $10k.
If you car is still under hire-purchase and the exporter needs to sort that out for you, they may ask for a couple of hundred dollars more coz it means more admin work for them. That one up to u to bargain.
If u want number-retention some more, need to tell them as well.
Good luck and u owe me a milo peng!
