Looking for 996 GT3...

I know there's a silver one for sale at Absolute but upon viewing, suspects it has gone through some unfortunate events before... This forum seems like a good place to find out these things so if anyone has info on this, will be keen to know. Guessing front bumper, bonnet, door, rear fender has undergone some level of work or replacement.

Meanwhile, if anyone knows of any who's selling theirs, will appreciate the headsup.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

Mk1 or MkII?

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

If it is the same car, the 996 gt3 was sold back/consigned back to Absolute. I went to see it 9 months ago and it was looking for a buyer. Took a while for them to offload the car, esp with the 997 in the mkt. When I first saw it, low mileage and in good shape I reckon but asking price was off...

Definitely MkII....late 05 car

I suspect this belonged to someone who is now driving a 997 Turbo

One yellow Clubsport, forumer here.

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

Mk II as it's a better car. Not the 997 as that's beyond my budget as most should be $400k+...

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

having owned the MkII for a good 2 years and tracked extensively, I dont know if it is or can be said as a better car.
There is alot more power, but there isnt a sense of fairness when you say the Mk1 is lacking in power.

I have had my MK1 for 6 months now and I enjoy it significantly compared to my other cars.

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

Wow! Rare of someone to switch from a Mk II to a Mk I. Anyway, I figured it's almost always better to buy a later model car if one can afford it than an earlier model. Plus I read that MK I is really a very raw car which may not be to my liking. Looks a bit dated already with the Boxster headlights.... no offense though.

Do let me know if you know of anyone selling theirs ok? Hope to see some at the upcoming used car sale at Stuttgart...

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

The MK2s are great.
I went back to a MK1 as I found them to be of good value in terms of car build and outright power. I dont need all the bhp and would rather spend extra dough tuning the car in terms of handling and gearing.

In terms of rawness, I think a big factor that many reviews fail to identify. Both MK1 and MKIIs were available to order without a leather interior. The dash in vinyl creates a significantly less "pleasant" experience but does add up to the noise factors and such. Thus it could be a catalyst of "rawness" or a definition of "comfort". Depends on how you look at it.

I did a LWF, R&R, and Cup Car LSD which transformed the car. And this are mods I highly recomend.

MKII is slightly better bang for buck as it has more power and better brakes too. It also has a tranny cooler(heat exchanger) which is great for the 2nd gear downshifts trailbraking into T15...:)

Its an amazing breed of cars and there is nothing I enjoy more in my stable of cars. I had just returned from a TD and some NS runs. Its not the best high speed cruiser but its still a good compromise.

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

Actually the 996 MkI is a lot more collectible because IIRC they were limited production whereas the 996 MkII was not limited. Most of the Porsche mags and RL'ers seem to say that the MkI is definitely the one to buy and hold onto.

No offence to MkII owners -- still a very nice and rare Porsche.

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

ok

then the rare GT3 shall be sold to the highest bidder

:)

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

A 997 GT3 RS would look good in its place. :)

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

Re: Looking for 996 GT3...

I used to be the owner for the Boxster S at Eurospeed. I sold it to a guy who sold it to Eurospeed within 2 months. Car has loads of options when I sold it including an almost brand new set of M030 Sports Suspension but the guy went to change it to some coilover kit which will likely be too hard for normal day-to-day driving.
