lifespan of 18in tyres

anybody can advise on average how long tyres for 18inch rims will last ?

thought of upgrading to the 162s , tyres are 225/40/18 for front and 255/35/18 for rear.
what i heard is that the 35s should last about 25000km.

Re: lifespan of 18in tyres

Tire wears depend on so many factors:
1. Tire type eg High Performance tires tend to wear out faster compared to say, average grip but quiet tires

2. Driving habit.
If you drive aggressively, your tires can wear out in less than 15k kms.
Normal n sedate driving style probably can last you until 30k kms.

Re: lifespan of 18in tyres

25km for any sized tyres should be a reasonable life time with normal wear and tear, unless they are not maintained properly, like incorrect air pressures, poor algnments etc...I have driven a set of tyres for up to 40km before replacements, but that's unusual I guess.

BTW, the BMW logo hub caps of my 18" rims keep getting stolen. Does anyone know where can I get them replaced? I don't need new ones since the chances of them stolen again are high in my neighbourhood. Where can I get a half dozen used hub caps?

Re: lifespan of 18in tyres

Wha so often stolen? Where do you stay?

Maybe you can put up a notice at your estate with large prints "WANT TO BUY BMW HUB CAPS". You might just end up buying back your own.

Re: lifespan of 18in tyres

may i ask how much you are being offerred for the 162s ? Thx.

Maybe they fall out of your rims while u drive? Thats why u are getting half a dozen to replace them

Re: lifespan of 18in tyres

my 1st 2 sets of 19" tires went bald at about 16k+ km....

Re: lifespan of 18in tyres

I live in a gansters infested neighbourhood, in malaysia. Good idea..I shd put up a notice to buy back my hub caps....but does anyone has a real knowledge of where can I get used hub caps? I know PML stocks them so don't suggest that answer.
I need only 2 for the time being, but don't mind stock up more.

Tyre shops (from trade ins, upgrade to designer ones etc), and scrap yards I guess.

Re: lifespan of 18in tyres

hi, offered at around $4200 for rims and tyres -inlcudes $600 for my current 156 rims +tyres. good deal ?

Anybody know what is the fuel consumption with 18in wheels. heard it can go as low as 7.5 km/ litre- thats scary.
