Let me introduce myself...

I joined the group over a month ago shortly after moving to Singapore. I then had to leave for business and vacation. All the travel craziness combined with moving and getting the kids started in their new schools prevented me from posting to the community.

I am originally from San Francisco, but have lived in Tokyo for the past several years (total time in Japan has been 11 years.) My nickname is a famous Japanese calligrapher (whose work I love) and also a Japanese philosophical concept translated roughly as affirmation in negation (spend some time reflecting on that short phrase and your head will spin.)

Enough of that, my car(s): I have owned several bimmers over the years. Currently, I still have my carbon black, 530i (with M-sports package and sunroof) parked in a garage in Tokyo. In Singapore, I have dark grey 523i. Recently, I spent a day in Tokyo between flights back to Singapore and pulled the car out for several hours of excellent driving.

My hobbies are mostly ocean related-- sailing, surfing, scuba-diving, and fishing.

I would love to import my 530i to Singapore since Japan also drives on the left side of the road so the placement of the steering wheel is not a problem. I checked into the process and it seems the cost is about the same as buying a used BMW. Any ideas on how to lower the cost of an import?

Second question is why 530s are not popular in Singapore. My employer provides me with a car and the only choices were 320s or the 523. I am not really complaining since the 523 is a great car; however, I do miss my 530i in Tokyo. I can't bring myself to sell it. Any suggestions on how to get a hold of a used 530 in good condition in Singapore is welcome.

Hopefully, I can get to meet many of you in this forum.

Regards

Re: Let me introduce myself...

Welcome in Bro,

Hope you enjoy yourself aboard.

Lesser 530 here is probably due to fuel price and an added premium on the 530 here. Road tax is probably another concern. practicality is also a factor.... where in Singapore can we run our 3 litre bimmer or the M5...unless up north.

Anyway welcome back bro and hope you continue to enjoy your e60.

Cheers
