Leaking roof on 335 CAB

Hey,

My good friend just bought a 335 Cab after deciding to dump his 1 year old Civic.

Alas, now he has got a leaking roof right above his seat where the roof meets the windscreen.

He has sent in the car once already and thought the problem will be solved as PML has changed all the rubber seals, but last week when washing car, the water leaked thru again!

Anyone has similar problems before? He just sent in the car yesterday again and is hoping the problem will be solved.

Re: Leaking roof on 335 CAB

Hi

As far as I know, alot of E93 owners have this problem.

So, tell your friend don't be alarmed. Just get PML to try to solve it as much as possible.

I guess BMW has got some learning to do before they can build VERY reliable Folding Hardtops....

So, this kinda issue is not surprising (at least to me, it's not)

That was why I still went with a coupe even though I was very tempted to consider the E93 back then......

Seems like the Softtop BMW's esp the E46's have fewer leaking issues as far as I know when speaking to Cab owners.....

Something to do with HardTop being more rigid to ensure a tighter shut line......

Cheers!

My fren just text me, saying PML told him they can't solve the problem.

They will be getting BMW Asia to take a look at the car......looks like they really have problems with the hard tops....

The new Z4 should have remained as a soft top then.....drove one for me wedding....whew!

can't solve problem? sounds like bs to me. bang table and insist that they do a roof replacement. this is not a problem common to all e93. so if it's a problem with roof fitting on your friend's ride, it is well within his rights to demand for one that fits.

i'm not surprised PML can't solve it. Apart from changing all the seals, what else can they do. I doubt the service manual has any other possible solutions for them to follow.

That said, I recall a scary story about an E93 cab roof half snapping off? Basically I saw posts (US site) with pictures of a roof that was twisted. Something about the driver lowering the roof, and one of the arm locks didn't disengage so the arms snapped on one side. I seriously can't remember where the post is, but I can remember the photos. Very scary. But anyway, there was this bit about how they couldn't just replace the roof, so I think the dealer/BMW NA talked to the owner about replacing the car itself, think with him trading for a new one with a small cash top up involved.

Made me wonder how difficult it'd be solving problems with the hard top. Also a reason why I decided not to wait for the E89 launch... till BMW has more experience with these hard top verts, I'm staying away. I'm sure they'll improve with the next couple of model revisions, I believe Benz had similar problems when they first launched the SLK right?

But I hope they BMW/PML manage to help sort out your friend's car soon. Otherwise, get them to trade it in for a 335coupe!

For foldable hard tops, the Japs do it best.

Lexus IS250-C
Mazda MX-5 (NC)

No problems reported so far, eslewhere too.
