K n N air filter..

Re: K n N air filter..

This topic quite widely discussed in various forums. Some like the filter and swear by it though there have been several concerns about the oil getting onto you sensors and the amount of particles that enters into your engine. Had one installed in my previous Camry and the car like it. No problems as long as you don't over oil and the engine is more lively. Not installed on my E90 yet as I wanted to sort out the fluctuating RPM with PML first before I start any mods. Hope that the above helps. Happy New Year.

Re: K n N air filter..

dont know if the concern is true.
i've been using knN over like over 4 cars, so far ok.
however, i've chosen simota (stainless steel) that has less oil for my current ride, just in case, hee.....

Re: K n N air filter..

The drop-in filter is surely better than the 1.5in thick stock filter.
However, do check your engine as the E60 consists on the previous M54 engine and the current Valvetronic one and they are of different filter designs. The latter will hv a bit of problem finding after mkt filter as it's relatively new.

Am on green filters prtty good....the mid-range RPMs are much more responsive:)

Re: K n N air filter..

so anyone here knows ppl who had put KnN on an E60 520i? whats this fuss about oil getting into the engine thing?

Re: K n N air filter..

I'm using KNN on my 545 and 320. There is NO EFFECT on the 545, maybe because of the engine size but theres definitely nothing detrimental. The engine roar on the 320 is slightly audible but thats all.

Re: K n N air filter..

fluctuating RPM can be due to air leak...

Re: K n N air filter..

Thanks for the advise Peterlaw,

PML still can't sort out my fluctuating RPM problems yet. Don't want to complicate matter by adding aftermarket stuff till they sort it out. I believe K&N will be good for my ride, as in my previous car. And I will probably maintain it myself to keep it clean and ensure that proper amount of oil is applied. Cheers.

I have K n N filter in my current ride. Abt a month after installing the filter, my car started having fluctuating rpm and finally it gave up and had to be towed back to workshop. They found that the MAF sensor is faulty which is most likely due to the oil from the filter. Luckily it was replaced under warranty without any fuss.

Other than that, the engine seems more eager to rev with this filter as compared to the stock filter.

Re: K n N air filter..

i think you can do it yourself.... just open your airbox and swap your OEM for the aftermarket one.

if you don't want to get your hands dirty, maybe buy it from autobacs? i think they do free installation.

Re: K n N air filter..

If worried about the oil in K&Ns then go for the Apex'I filters. They are conical paper filters. Filtration was tested to be superior to HKS sponge and Blitz wire mesh, but flow was only slightly less. Paper is good for singapore where the road dust contains a large percentage of silicone (sand) which cannot be filtered by oiled cotton or wire mesh but is stopped by paper.

Re: K n N air filter..

Tanzy, any experieince with Apexi air filter on BMW? I look up their website and it seem like they don't make anything for BMW. Funny thay have VW and Audi on the product list.

Re: K n N air filter..

Where is the best place in Singapore to buy K&N Filters or Green Filters?
