Jerking steptronic gearshift

Hi everyone!

I experienced gearshift jerking when i engaged either 1st or 2nd gear in my 730i on steptronic mode. Jerk is hard and obvious......During normal driving in auto mode, the gear sometimes refuse to upshift from 3rd to 4th especially when the gradient of the road is a gentle up slope.

Has anyone who has encounter this before pls advice? I suspect the fault lies with the ATF oil or is it the tranny going up the lorry liao?

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

Hi,

I had similar issue on my X5 and recently my E90.
I tried out some "reset" thing which I read on this forum, cured both my cars of jerky transmission and holding gear. Bros, help me out, cannot remember the exact description.
Something like inserting the key and turn the key to turn on everything except the engine, then hold down the accelerator pedal all the way for 30 secs or so. Then start the car, drive ard and see if its solved...

hopeful this helps.

Regards,
Nicholas

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

Oh so sounds like its electrical problem....no harm giving it a try :)

Thanks!

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

macgyver is correct, but the sequence i also forget

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

1. Rotate key to switch on electronics, but dont crank engine
2. press pedal all the way to the metal.
3. wait 25s
4. rotate key anti clockwise to switch off.
5. start engine.

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

I only did it once and it worked fine. Once again, I also not sure wat is happening behind the scenes. Heard tat ECU learn our shifting whenever we use steptronic, hence it tries to apply our shifting "technique"(or lack of it) :lol2: when we drive in "D" mode.

If it doesn't work, need other experts liao... I only know how to drive and check tire pressure...

Can this method apply to e39 as well??

I believe so. Since my X5 is of the same era as the E39

Yup, everything solved. I reset once in a few months.

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

I just do what the reset step stated above, but my car still have the problem..:(

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

try changing gearbox oil...it might help..i am not sure.... is your car still under warranty? if yes... go screw PML...

if not...the problem might lie with the lower part of the gearbox called mechatronick ... to change this... cost 5k ++++

best is go back to PML to find 100% what the problem is...

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift

Hi guys!

Think the problem is solved for time being.....At least now in steptronic mode the car don't jerk as much during engaging of 1st and 2nd gear.

Will monitor a while and see how it goes.

Thank you! :)

Re: Jerking steptronic gearshift
