Tenders to develop new ERP system awarded - Channel NewsAsia

SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded tenders for trials to develop the next generation of the electronic road pricing (ERP) system.

What's being explored is a satellite-based method for road tolls, which reduces dependence on physical ERP gantries.

Four groups of companies have secured the tenders.

They are Kapsch TrafficCom AB, MHI Engine System Asia and NCS, ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) and IBM Singapore,
and Watchdata Technologies as well as Beijing Watchdata System.

Each group will be given seed funding of S$1 million to develop and demonstrate technological solutions.

The 18-month trials starts next month.

For all you know they can track your speed and issue summons. VERY possible. Since they are already tracking distance and time.

timing very good. Election over then news come out.

If they want to foster good relations with motorists, perhaps they can include a GPS maps system into the new device which will be installed into our car. its using the same tracking device anyway. The only thing that is extra would be a screen. Then you value add to the motorists while reducing congestion. Since the data is real time, LTA can incorporate into the mapping areas where there are congestions. It's win-win.

Instead of just raising transport costs for motorists in the name of congestion, do something active to guide superfluous traffic away.
