Any one got problem with their remote of opening and closing of doors , had to be very close to the car , due to installing of solar firms , i have left my car with performance for a week and till now they still cannot rectify the problems , they say is solar films issue cause the remote insensitivity , but i find its a nonsense . the films from 3m , came together with the car . i call up 3m to ask , they say their films will not cause resistance , but performance say likewise , they told me 3m told them is the films problem , i realise they are giving me excuses . need some advise on that . thks

Re: Issue with remote

Put the "close" in meter. Otherwise, diff ppl has diff close.

Re: Issue with remote

solar films does cause sensitivity to remote effectiveness. previously i need to be about 3 meters close b4 it works.

I am on 3M film, and I can operate my remote, unlock doors, open and close windows from 15m. (have not tried operating from farther distance yet).

Re: Issue with remote

can't we just wind down all the windows, test the remote, and prove or disprove that the film affect the remote sensitivity???

Re: Issue with remote

Curious... where is the receiver for the remote? I seem to be able to open my doors further when I approach it from the left than from the right.

Towards car from left-hand side say 10m but from right-hand side seems 1-2m. Again, I also discover that approaching car from rear regardless of which side gets better remote response overall. Why?

Mine less than a metre

Less than a metre is ridiculous. My advice would be to go tell PML to take down all the 3M film and check the remote. If problem persists tell PML to fix it and pay you costs of re-installing the solar film.

Re: Issue with remote

I feel like changing a new car . 2wk car so many problems , worst than a second hand car . very bad experience with
BMW.

What are other problems?

Ask tester to pinpoint where is the antenna. Check whether there is a break during installation of solar film.

I think the antenna is hidden on top of rear windscreen.

Bro, mine have to close too..my previous ride Bobo think can lock/unlock within 20 to 30m but this bimmer (3M film too) need to be as close as 5m sometimes lock also need to press 2/3 times (it does feel like it is on low batt) but i bo chap anyway u need to be close to open yr door...send car back PML more troublesome... and so long as the issues r minor dun let them bother you....every car have its problems...my previous ride bobo - the f&^ing Powershift gearbox like 'retarded' even my SA says problematic & no solution to it..luckily got rid of it exactly 1 year w/o loss..

Re: Issue with remote

sigh.. i having the same problem too.. mine is less than a metre.. =(

speaking from a physics science perspective, solar films may be the possible cause because the purpose of these films are to tint and to reflect infrared heat.. since the remote works on the concept of infrared waves, its possible the films are actually rejecting the remote waves..

oh well.. design flaw by BMW already then..

Re: Issue with remote

i can open/close via remote 10 meters away. i got tinted windows from sherman.
u know what .... don't point your remote directly to your car especially the doors (human instinct)
point the remote outward the car front/rear and see what is the result

outward means pointing the car front/rear bumper few meters away

Re: Issue with remote

I have the same problem on my e90. Have to get real close to open the door.
My previous e46 has the same brand of solar film but the remote works perfectly normal.
Anyway, Bo chap la. Still haven't fix the winscreen water jet that is spraying water all over my roof, windows and boot.

but pointing doesnt really help wad.. cos theres no specific beam port on the remote.. am i right? its just like an in-build sensor.. like bluetooth eg.

Re: Issue with remote

just came out from workshop , the problem still persist . guess just live with it , rather than no car .

Do you have problems with ERP and or transponders sensitivity?

Re: Issue with remote

if ERP and transponders work fine, then it's not a film issue.....
