Is there a FAQ on tracking car?

I've never tracked my car before, and judging from the Apr 7 tracking thread, it looks mighty fun. Is there a beginner's guide or FAQ to tracking your car somewhere? I don't seem to be able to find it. Can any of you regular trackies share some info?

- Besides the car and helmet, what is the attire like?
- Is a stock car sufficient?
- Any special things needed to prepare the car?
- What would I expect to change after the track session? eg tyres, brake pads, engine oil etc?
- How much per session? Does that offer unlimited laps?
- How many laps, on average, do you do before cooling down the car?
- Are there standard driving rules on track? For eg, how to give way to faster moving vehicles or how to indicate safe passing for the overtaking car?

Thanks

Re: Is there a FAQ on tracking car?

There was some write up before and I am sure it's still available. Have a look under either Contributed Article or Member's Folders Only (if u can access it )

- Besides the car and helmet, what is the attire like?
ans. Just a polo/t-shirt with bermudas/3rd qtr length pants just fine. No sandals or toes exposed type of shoes.

- Is a stock car sufficient?
ans. What car do u drive? Most people here at least have a bigger rims eg 17in rims, uprated brakes ( lines, pads, fluid ) and some suspension set up.
If u have an entry level stock car it's probably a struggle. The same can't be said tho if you have entry level Porsche :lol2:

- Any special things needed to prepare the car?
ans. Nothing special. The most important thing is to ensure the brakes are working properly and pads are thick enough. U can't track if your pads are only 3mm left for instance. Also, ensure your tires have decent amount of tread left..... U can always have your car sent to workshops like BVO or Juzz4Car to have it checked prior to track day.

- What would I expect to change after the track session? eg tyres, brake pads, engine oil etc?
ans. As for tires n pads, those depend on how much/hard u hv tracked....but for sure, u dont need a new set of tires/pads right after ur trackday. From brand new tires, they can last for a couple of track days.
Regarding engine oil, u may wish to change it before the track day....at least that's wot I always do. And then change the oil again maybe a couple of months down the road. Some people do the other way round...The change right after the track day.

- How much per session? Does that offer unlimited laps?
ans. Typically MYR 350 for a half day session at Sepang, unlimited laps of coz.

- How many laps, on average, do you do before cooling down the car?
ans. Depends on how the set up of the car is but I'd think typically people go for like 5 hot laps then 1-2 laps to cool down. Some better prepped cars can go as many as 10 laps per go

- Are there standard driving rules on track? For eg, how to give way to faster moving vehicles or how to indicate safe passing for the overtaking car?
ans. Yes there are and you will find out during the briefing before orientation/track day begins. And FYI, they are strict rules!
