hi bros,

i saw many cars advertised in malaysia with new engines installed. with coe on the rise

1. can it be done here in singapore
2. is it a complicated process ,
3. legal?
4 insurance
5. workshop
6 is it worth the cost and hassle
7. resale ?

TIA

Re: installing new engines

Dun even go there.

You are cheating the authority of road tax, and your insurance coverage will be redundant if something happens and you are caught....... this assumed full adaptation of the new block without any technical complication.....

Re: installing new engines

1. can it be done here in singapore - can... but if I were to... I won't do it in SG
2. is it a complicated process - depends on wut car u drv'ing + wut engine u wanna put lo..
3. legal? - hell no...
4. insurance - refer to #3
5. workshop - gotta find someone u trust
6. is it worth the cost and hassle - no, but if I got rui I will still do it
7. resale ? - forget abt it...

Re: installing new engines

You can legally change engine if your engine spoil. Just get back the same engine model as the one you have now, and inform LTA your new engine number to update the records.

If you're like Ryan, feel like changing his M3 engine to a 335i engine, maybe he will be charged by LTA for overpaying road tax. hahahahaha

Re: installing new engines

so if the engine is spoilt then can install back same engine capacity and as long as pay taxes pay tax?? then its legal??
must installation of new engine be done by authorised dealer??

, say car got another 6 years of coe left, just that milage is extreme, change to new engine car good for few more years, still a cheaper method than buy new car .

Re: installing new engines

yes definitely. And if I'm not wrong, it's gotta be done by the authorised dealer. If not, you might still get it passed by LTA but i'll imagine a lot more headaches. So, if your engine is very old, going to go soon, something wrong, water went in, etc, you can always get the engine changed out in your free time. It's like any other car component. There's no other tax to pay other than GST. Actually even if your engine nothing wrong you just want to spend money to change it also can, in theory.

Now, if you have a 6yo car, and the mileage is very high, but otherwise no problem. And if you're intending to buy a new engine already, why dont you drive it until it totally piang, then change. might as well right?
