Insensitive remotes and automatic headlight control

The remotes using radio wave is indeed very short distance. 2 to 3m sounds just about right....

As for the headlight, that is because of light contrast. Usually u will see the light coming on when it goes under a overhead bridge... Quite common if u ask me....

piggy my remote works from 20+ meters away leh. 2-3 m is for the infra red ones right? sounds short.

The remotes for my car definitely works via radio wave and yes, its range is very short. I actually found out via a foreign Bimmer forum that this is not unique locally.
In the States, the dealer can fit in a remote amplifier to make the thing work better. I even have the part number for this gadget and discrete enquiring through the backdoors of PML actually confirmed the existence of such a part, even though the service people claim they know nothing about such a gadget.
I guess the service guys here at PML are just plain ignorant!

With so many parts in a BMW...i don't think they're ignorant...most likely uninformed. Especially much so for a product which people (generally) don't even enquire about.

They are just blur. Same in Canada they are also quite blur only difference is that they really try to get the part and show you the work done.
BMW should have all CSA read their local forums or the US forums for more information. At least they can deal with current issues that arise.

you can try to stick the metal part of the key on your forehead when you want to unlock your car at a longer distance.

I've owned 4 previous 3 series cars ( E36 and E46 ) over the past few years prior to the present E65. My experience with PML service is that they are generally ok but as you said, can be abit uninformed. But, I hope that they can at least find out more about specific requests from obviously informed customers rather then to tell them off with a 'that's normal for your car' type of phrase.
They must realise that we BMW drivers choose to own a BMW and not a Merc because we are enthusiasts and are generally more technically savy and more informed about our cars compared to an average Merc owner ( no offence to any Merc owners out there ).

I had the same problem as u on my previous E46 cabrio; The remote only works within 2-3 metres; The whole sensor was changed wif no qns asked. As for the light sensor, my Mit Grandis no such problem leh, unless u go into the CTE tunnel then the low lights will come on, but not when I am out in the open.

Cheers

Hahaha.... i got it mixed up...

So the earlier version is the infra red ones right ?? Or radiowave ??

Anyway, the trick u taught really work for the newer car... I can open my door from my house when i park my car at the multi storey carpark some 50 metres away when i stick the key under my chin kekekeke.........

The remote controls and the automatic headlight control function for my E65 730i are rather insensitive.

yky: my boss's e65 730i doesn't behave like this. Its not normal. If its warranty you should get it fixed. Ask them to prove it to you using another 730 that its normal behavior. I dunno why PML people expects bmw drivers to accept their lame excuses and will only act for people who bang table and make a big fuss higher up. The nice guys always get taken advantaged of. why must it be like that?

Yeah, I will bang table!
I tried calling PML ( both East Coast and Alexandra branches ) to talk to any service advisors but the receptionists kept telling me that they are unavailable..busy with customers, etc....told me told make appointment and bring my car down so that they can check on it. Really frustrating. I have complained to BMW Asia...said they will look into it.
