Import cars - 335i sedan

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

U will have a new 10 year COE. Unbelievable that mileage is so low. Check the OMV. Calculate the depreciation. May not be much savings from buying a used car locally, or new.

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

Not worth it imo. OMV is bound to be low, car is under utilised, its a bad thing to clock 230km in 1.5 yrs. There's local used avail.

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

While the local used ones are sold off very fast, I noticed the imported used ones are stuck for a long, long time. If you buy it, you will face the same issue when you want to sell later.

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

Yup.....last year the price tag was 160K. I was attracted to the low mileage and wondering any adjustment made to this car. Can our speedometer tweak?

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

isnt the asking price super mega expensive?

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

new 10yr COE means u are paying for the current day mad COE prices? if so, then ur "depreciation" in coe will be higher than the local used ones... pushing up ur overall depreciation...

coe aside, if u are going to drive all the way, i believe it is still depreciating slightly lesser than pml unit despite the low omw... gotta do ur sums..

maybe u can see it from a pt that u are paying less upfront in terms of loan and interest...

but if u are not gonna use it all the way and want to sell it after a few years, then good luck...

my 2 cents ;)

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

Just for comparison purpose, 2 year old PML e92 335 is going at $180k+ before COE increase.
So I believe this sedan's price has been marked up taking into account new COE prices, but this doesn't mean it has high OMV or has the new COE (maybe yes I don't know). But general feeling without knowing the actual numbers is that it is quite ex compared to a while ago due to COE effect.
If I already have a car to drive I won't go for it...based on pricing alone....but it's just me Robot la :)

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

Thank you brothers for all your valuable advice. Guess the smart move now is to HOLD the purchase. Cheers.

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

If you'r gonna buy a used PI car, at least buy one that was registered here from Day 1. You never know whether cars which have been overseas have been clocked, subject to some major accident etc etc. And there's also the issue of the shorter OMV life.

What do you mean by shorter OMV life?

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

Import used cars are usually registered before they come to Singapore e.g. a car that arrives here in April 2010 may have originally been registered in the UK in Jan 2009. Hence though the COE may be valid for 10 years starting April 2010, the OMV that the car is eligible for is from the date it was first registered in the UK i.e. 10 years from Jan 2009 rather than from April 2010. Accordingly, your loan would also be based on a Jan 2009 car i.e. less than 10 years.

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

oh... was not aware of this....

in your example, this means that the owner of such a car needs to scrap the car by Jan 2019 to enjoy the ARF rebates and 1.25 years of COE rebate.

Yup, cannot believe...can the OBD detect any tweaking of mileage?

Yup wasn't aware of that myself till i asked. There are even some import used cars that are 2 years old or more and potential buyers may think they are a fantastic buy until they realise that the car's OMV is only valid for under 8 years...

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

hi bro, i was contemplating to get imported used M3 or 335 as well but was told by one of my dealer friends that the OMV is incredibly low. Should u drive it for 1 or 2 years, your chances of resale is to the general market than to dealers, who wun take it in unless u r willing to lose alot on that.

Re: Import cars - 335i sedan

For M3 it'll be worth it as the difference between M Division or PML will be a lot even with low OMV. But a PI 335 E90 from PI will not save you much. I think all sedans from PML are the bread and butter. Higher volume cars, economy of scale.

Agreed...........
